1/5/2024 - FUN TIMES AT THE COMMON; OATH OF OFFICE CEREMONY; WATCH CITY HALL BEING BUILT; etc. View this email in your browser Festivities at the Common on New Year's Eve included two spectacular fireworks shows, observed here by merrymakers on City Hall's 6th floor. Announcements Public Meetings Mt. Olympus Community Council Mon., 1/8/24, 6pm Churchill Jr High 3450 E Oakview Dr City Council & Community NEWS RESIDENTS EMBRACE PUBLIC SPACES AT THE COMMON MILLCREEK. Residents told us at length during the planning stages of the Common that they wanted our new city center to include a variety of public spaces. The number one facility they said they wanted was a skating rink—both roller and ice skating. The Skate Loop officially opened in June 2022. Since then, the popularity of skating at the Common has shown that the residents really meant what they said. ---PAGE BREAK--- Reinvestment Agency Tues., 1/9/24 Work meeting 5 pm Inauguration Reception 6:30pm Special Meeting 7pm Agendas below Millcreek Community Council - Due to holiday schedules, the meeting will be held on Tues., 1/16/24 The number of individuals and families skating has steadily increased with revenues increasing in December 2023 by almost 25% over December 2022. The revenue helps us to cover expenses such as skate purchases, ice maintenance, and staff payroll, and allows us to continue to provide what our residents tell us are wonderful experiences. The Holiday Shoppes at the Marketplace on the first floor of City Hall was also a bustling place over the holidays, with shoppers purchasing gifts for friends and family, or just coming in to see what was going on and to warm up. Millcreek Coffee Roasters is now open (also on the first floor of City Hall) and visitors can enjoy a warm cup or coffee or cocoa along with a selection of sandwiches and snacks. For reasons of its own, Cafe Mamai, the original lessor of the incubator kitchen across from the coffee shop, decided to not open. But watch for another local restaurant to set up shop space in the next few months. The Arcade on the first floor of City Hall, with its large selection of games, will be available for play at the cost of $5 per person for unlimited play until January 7th from 11 am to 9 pm and on January 8th from 11 am to 5 pm. The Early Eve and Newphoria Big Boom Bash events on New Year’s Eve were grand successes, with all tickets being sold out. Kids loved the Arcade and skating and the fireworks shows were stunning, especially from the balcony of the Grandview room on the City Hall sixth floor.* Watch for the Art Market to take over the first floor space from January 15th to March 16th. Drop in for a visit any day from 11 am to 9 pm and enjoy the interesting and varied artwork from local artists. You may want to purchase a piece or two for your home. * The Grandview can be reserved for meetings, weddings, or other important events by contacting Rachel Nasse, Community Life, Events Planning Manager at [EMAIL REDACTED] or [PHONE REDACTED]. ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- TIME LAPSE OF CITY HALL CONSTRUCTION MILLCREEK. The existing rock lined ditch on the west side is being removed and is being replaced with concrete pipe. The piping and other irrigation improvements are scheduled to be completed by April 1st when the water is typically diverted into the system. Other improvements will be the installation of a new curb, gutter, & sidewalk and an asphalt overlay beginning in the spring and scheduled to be completed by October of this year.
