Public parking will be available in the structure to the west of the building. Announcements PUBLIC MEETINGS Planning Commission Wed., 10/20/21, 5pm City Hall, 3330 S 1300 E Agenda below Join virtually HERE NEWS NEW CITY HALL PLANNING ADVANCES MILLCREEK. MHTN Architects continues to work closely with city and community leaders on fleshing out details for the new Millcreek City Hall. After paying rent for the past four years in their start-up strip-mall city hall, Millcreek is planning on building a new headquarters at 1330 E Chambers Avenue (3205 South) before our current lease is up at the end of June 2023. ---PAGE BREAK--- “It’s exciting to see the project coming together,” said Mayor Jeff Silvestrini. “The plans include both what is needed for city government to function AND some incredible amenities to bring us together as a community.” With much professional advice and plenty of community input, the rendering above and drawings below depict what the current plans are looking like: Rendering of proposed ground floor of new Millcreek City Center, which will have a public market, including an open area for rotating market events. Millcreek’s City Hall will be one of the first in the country to have a public market on the ground floor. “This 9,700 square foot space will have a café, restaurant entrepreneur incubator space, and an open area for rotating market events,” said Aimee McConkie, city events director. “I envision farmers markets spilling out into Millcreek Common, craft fairs, ethnic festivals, and more,” she said. ---PAGE BREAK--- Rendering of proposed second floor of new Millcreek City Center, where the new City Council chambers will be located. The second floor will hold a new city council chamber, called the Community Forum, which can seat 125 comfortably and will have commanding views of Mt. Olympus. The third floor will be the new home of the Millcreek Precinct of the Unified Police Department, whose lease of its 39th South HQ is up about the same time as the city’s lease. “Having the police headquarters as part of city hall will increase the cooperation with city departments, provide some shared facilities like an Emergency Operations Center, and will add an enormous measure of security to the adjacent Millcreek Common,” said Mayor Silvestrini. ---PAGE BREAK--- Rendering of proposed top floor of new Millcreek City Center. A large room with spectacular views and outside decks will be available to the general public to rent for private or other community events. The fourth and fifth floor will house most city employee offices and rooms to meet with residents. The sixth and highest floor will house a large community room that will be able to fit 175 people for a banquet or conference. It will be accessible for rentals by community groups and the public. With gorgeous views of the Wasatch to the east, and the excitement of the activities on Millcreek Common below, the community room will be the site of future wedding receptions, fundraising galas, community banquets, retirement parties, corporate trainings, and more. Ground is expected to be broken on the new City Hall in spring 2022, with the building completion anticipated before the end of June 2023. Construction is being financed through municipal bonds that bear a 2.14% interest rate. The bonds will be paid through current revenues, and do not increase the city’s debt load beyond debt carried by most other cities in Salt Lake County. ---PAGE BREAK--- SIGNIFICANT LANE SHIFTS WILL OCCUR ON I-80 THIS WEEKEND SALT LAKE COUNTY. This weekend, weather permitting, the eastbound I-80 travel lanes between 1300 East and 1700 East will be shifted to the new concrete that has been placed in the median. The lane shift will allow crews to complete the reconstruction of eastbound I-80 in this section. Traffic will remain in this pattern through winter 2022. Drivers can expect uneven pavement in the travel lanes, including drainage grates. They should use caution in the work zone. Trucks frequently enter and exit the work zone from the left lanes of I-80 and I-215. Follow the reduced speed limit and give other drivers plenty of room. Visit udot.utah.gov/saltlakeeast for more information and to sign up for updates. ---PAGE BREAK--- The community's vision of the Millcreek Common is becoming reality at the construction site. WASATCH BUSINESS SERIES MEMBERS GET A FIRST-HAND LOOK AT MILLCREEK COMMON MILLCREEK. The Millcreek Business Council showed off the progress of the Millcreek Common earlier this week to members of neighboring chambers of commerce. In a Wasatch Business Series event, Millcreek officials made a presentation on the origins and progress of Millcreek Common. The group then toured the construction site, where they could observe the progress of ice-skating ribbon, Pizza NoNo's newest location, the splash pad, and the Adventure Hub building. The Common will be a gathering place for residents from all over the city (and the county) to visit and spend time ice skating in the winter and roller skating in the summer on the county's biggest ice ribbon. A splash pad will provide summer fun for kids and events will be happening almost every day of the year. Eventually shops and eateries will line the Common providing a unique experience for kids of all ages. ---PAGE BREAK--- The Wasatch Business Series is a partnership of several Chambers of Commerce from across the Salt Lake Valley including, the Millcreek Business Council, the South Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Holladay Chamber of Commerce, the Utah Independent Business Coalition, the Utah Chamber of Commerce, Cottonwood Heights Business Association, and the Murray Area Chamber of Commerce. As a part of their fire-fighting efforts in Neff's Canyon last fall, crews created piles of what is known as "slash". These piles are comprised of tree limbs and debris left after thinning the lower parts of trees to reduce the ability for a fire to jump the fire lines. The Forest Service has notified us that weather conditions forecast for next week will allow them to burn these slash piles in Neffs Canyon as the final cleanup from the fire. Residents can expect to see smoke in the canyon and hikers will find some trails closed during the burn. These efforts bring back to mind the seriousness of last year's fire and the yeoman's work done by the Forest Service, the interagency Hot Shot teams, and the Unified Fire Authority, who together brought the fire under control and saved the Mt Olympus community from what could have been a devastating event. We owe everyone involved a huge debt of gratitude. ---PAGE BREAK--- FALL LEAF COLLECTION BEGINS MILLCREEK.
