ANNOUNCEMENTS Millcreek city offices will be closed on Monday 6/17 in observance of Juneteenth. Public Meetings City Council Special Meeting Mon., 6/18/24, 5pm NEWS Storm Water Mapping Underway MILLCREEK. When Millcreek incorporated, we inherited Salt Lake County stormwater infrastructure, which was aging and not well mapped out. Mapping and inventory of infrastructure is crucial to be able to find new problems, diagnose known problem areas, and establish a storm drain master plan. The Federal Clean Water Act requires that ---PAGE BREAK--- City Hall, 2nd Floor 1330 E Chambers Ave Planning Commission Wed., 6/19/24, 5pm City Hall, 2nd Floor 1330 E Chambers Ave Agendas below stormwater discharges from certain types of facilities be authorized under stormwater discharge permits (MS4 Permits). In Utah, these permits are overseen by the Utah State Department of Environmental Quality. The goal of the stormwater permit program is to reduce the amount of pollutants entering streams, lakes, and rivers as a result of runoff from residential, commercial, and industrial areas. All permittees must develop, implement, and enforce a Storm Water Management Plan (SWMP) designed to reduce the discharge of pollutants to the maximum extent practicable, protect the water quality, and satisfy the appropriate water quality requirements of the Utah Water Quality Act. The Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) recently performed an audit that identifies Millcreek as deficient in a few small areas. As no mapping had been done by Salt Lake County for many years prior to city incorporation, one of the deficiencies is storm water infrastructure mapping/inventory . On this general GIS map of Millcreek, please note the large areas where no mapping is available. Our plan is to fill in those gaps. Introducing Our New Storm Water Program Interns. To address this problem, we have utilized the stormwater utility fee funding to hire two interns in the Storm Water program. These interns are diligently mapping and creating an inventory of our existing infrastructure using GPS and GIS technology. Their work is essential to Public Works and Engineering as it ---PAGE BREAK--- effectively enables us to allocate future funding to stormwater projects throughout the City. If you ever encounter two Millcreek employees on your street, near a creek, or requesting to work in your backyard, we encourage you to extend your support and appreciation to this effort. Remember, we all live Ballot Box at Millcreek Common It is election season and ballots are out. A ballot drop box is located on Millcreek Common (1354 E Chambers Ave) outside near the flagpoles.
