I-80 will be closed in both directions between 700 East and Foothill Drive this weekend while crews demolish the existing 1700 East bridge and slide the new bridge into place. Depending on weather, the closure is scheduled to occur: Friday, April 8 at 9 PM through Sunday, April 10 at 1 PM This closure will result in heavy travel delays. Drivers should use I-15 and I-215 as an alternate route, as shown in the map above. Speed Limit: The contractor placed additional speed limit signs throughout the project area. Additionally, the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) has been patrolling ---PAGE BREAK--- the area and conducting speed blitzes to encourage drivers to drive the posted speed limit. Rumble Strips on I-215: To muffle the sound of cars driving over the rumble strips on I-215, the contractor placed an adhesive mastic material in the strips. If you have questions or concerns, please contact UDOT at: [PHONE REDACTED] [EMAIL REDACTED] udot.utah.gov/saltlakeeast WAIT TO WATER YOUR LAWN MILLCREEK. The Utah Division of Water Resources (DWR) is advising us all to wait to water our yards until the temperatures are in the mid-70s for several consecutive days. Sixty percent of residential water in Utah is used for outdoor irrigation. Eliminating just one watering per week can save about 3000 gallons for the average quarter-acre Utah yard with .17 acres of green space. ---PAGE BREAK--- Summary of current drought conditions in Utah: 98.16% of Utah is in severe drought – which is extremely concerning for this time of year. This winter’s snowpack peaked at 12 inches (16 inches would be a normal peak) and hasn't provided enough to offset the record dry conditions we saw last summer and fall. Below-average snowpack and low reservoir storage make conservation more important than ever. Finding ways to reduce water use is critical as we move into the summer months. Fortunately, soil moisture is around 10% higher than normal for this time of year, which will increase the chance of water making it into our streams and reservoirs. Please spread the word. Visit DWR's Facebook (@ConserveUtahWater) and Twitter (@UTAHSavesH2O) and share the initial Weekly Lawn Watering Guide. The DWR will also be rolling out water-saving tips (including money-saving rebates for irrigation controllers and low-flow toilets) and invite you to share this messaging with your friends and neighbors. The capsule was opened earlier this week to celebrate the hospital's 150th anniversary. Items included newspaper clippings and documents that dated back to the mid-1800s.
