Mayor Silvestrini and Millcreek staff members joined in the fun on Wednesday of national Read Across America Day. The day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 to help get kids excited about reading. The event occurs annually on the birthday of children's book author Dr. Seuss. ---PAGE BREAK--- “Read Across America Day allows the community to share in the celebrations around literacy in collaboration with the schools," said Millcreek Promise Director Kayla Mayers. "The Millcreek Elementary Principal and Literacy Coach wanted the opportunity to show the kids how many adults care about them and literacy, and with these two events, we had a large showing from the community to do just that!" Parents and kids alike had a wonderful time reading and exploring new books. We look forward to participating in Read Across America Day each year and will continue to work through the Millcreek Promise Program to support our elementary schools. Learn more about the Promise Program and how you can get involved on the Millcreek website HERE.
