Special Meeting - Open House on 3900 So. NEWS Development Applications Spur City Center Planning MILLCREEK. The City Council will soon be asked to adopt the City Center Master Plan to govern development in the area to the north of 33rd South between 13th East and Highland Drive. The Plan is an effort to harness changes that are being driven by development applications. East Mill Creek Community Council Thurs., 5/2/19, 6:30 PM Millcreek Comm. Center 2266 E. Evergreen Ave. after we incorporated, we received applications for some unremarkable high-density projects, which were haphazard and offered little to enhance our Millcreek community. These applications were submitted under the zoning maps and laws we inherited from the County, which allowed multifamily development in this area with heights up to 72 feet. Based on residents’ input that we had been receiving in our General Plan outreach project, we believed that the City could do better and deserved more in this area. So we applied for and got a grant to study the issue and develop a plan. Thus, the proposed plan is a reaction to what was already happening. It represents a restriction on development, rather than an additional allowance. The residential density potential of the area has been the same for decades, but now the City is proposing to require commercial to be a part of that development. The plan forces additional open space, and restricts height, and designs buildings to protect some critical views. None of that is provided for in current ordinances. The steel and glass depictions of buildings in the presentation of the plan are only rough ideas of what property owners might present in the future. We want your input about how this area should look and feel. Note that except for the park space, we intend this development be driven by the market, at the request of private property owners in the area. As for the park space, we plan to acquire it through arms-length purchases from current owners. This is your chance to have input into our City Center’s future. The draft City Center Master Plan is now ready for public review and the formal adoption process. Click here to see the draft plan. We encourage you to come to one or more of the following public meetings in the next couple of weeks to learn more and make sure we get your comments. ---PAGE BREAK--- 4/29/2019 Development Applications Spur City Center Plan 3/10 There will also be a Planning Commission hearing on this plan on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 5:00 pm at Millcreek City Hall, 3330 South 1300 East. The seventh annual Millcreek Senior Center Boutique will be on Saturday, April 27th from 9am to 3pm at the Millcreek Community Center, 2266 East Evergreen Ave. More than 30 vendors have been signed up to sell arts, crafts, jewelry, original artwork and photographs, kitchen items, books, toys, handcrafts, note cards, gift baskets and more. “We expect 500 to 1400 shoppers to come through on Saturday”, said Bill Stockdale, Boutique Chair. “We have designed the space so visitors can move comfortably around the building and see the wide variety of goods available. In the past, with our Spring Boutique just before Mother’s Day, we see an influx of younger shoppers later in the day after Moms have been through and called the kids with hints on what they want.” As a special inducement to get more people out to shop, Walmart has donated a 32” HDTV LED TV set that will be given away as a door prize. The drawing ---PAGE BREAK--- 4/29/2019 Development Applications Spur City Center Plan 4/10 for the TV will be at 3 p.m., but you do not need to be present to win. What is needed is the shopper to get nine signoffs on an entry form from vendors and drop it off at the Advisory Committee table. This Boutique is one the fund-raising events sponsored by the Millcreek Senior Center Advisory Committee, Inc.-- a nonprofit corporation supporting the services and events for the senior citizens at the Millcreek Senior Center thru private donations. The committee is a 501-c-3 organization. Funds are used to expand offerings of instruction, social contact, field trips, and other support beyond the County’s basic budget. For more information about the Boutique, contact Bill Stockdale at 801-554- 8170. To sign up for the Senior Center's weekly e-mail blast, call [PHONE REDACTED] or send an email to [EMAIL REDACTED].
