Some residents and businesses in Millcreek will have access soon to updated internet, television, and telephone technology currently being installed in Millcreek streets. FiberTel has been installing conduits this week in the public utility easements along 23rd East from Heritage Drive south to 39th South. They drill underground with an auger, to which the conduit is attached (and thereby pulled through at the same time). Installation of cable in the conduit will quickly follow, and we'll begin to see new "doghouse" nodes pop up in park strips. Below are photos of what a "doghouse" node near you may look like. We will also see crews working on power poles and overhead lines, placing new aerial nodes close to power poles. The old nodes are silver, the new ones will be white. The new services will be available as soon as work is completed in each area. If you are a Comcast customer, you may have to grimace through a day or so of spotty services while you’re getting connected to the new infrastructure. Call Comcast, not the City, to complain! As of this week, the City has issued permits for street cuts on Honeycut, Upland, 3610 East and 23rd East. Street cut permits won't be necessary for most of the work, as the majority is being accomplished in park strips. Thus, we can't tell you exactly where the infrastructure upgrades will be installed. We are told that the plan is to snake through Millcreek going roughly east to west, with all work in Millcreek completed by this fall. If you are impacted the construction, you should have a notice delivered to your door before work begins. If you have questions or concerns, you can call FiberTel at [PHONE REDACTED]. St. Mark's Hospital is having a "Heart Health Fair" later this month because February is National Heart month. Stop by the hospital for free blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and BMI testing. Plus you can get trained to give CPR. Cool, huh? Even more plus, you can get lectured by a cardiologist on how to prevent heart failure, and the available options if you get it anyway. The testing and training will take place on on Tuesday, February 20th, from 10 AM to noon in the main lobby and from 4-6 PM on the second floor of the Women's Pavilion. We live in a beautiful community, chock-full of mature trees and landscaping. We all need to help keep our community beautiful. Low-hanging branches and other landscaping is often broken by the big trucks that frequent most of our neighborhoods. Millcreek Ord. 14.12.050 Landscaping Overhanging Street Pavement requires that trees and landscaping overhanging the street be trimmed to a height no greater than 13.5 feet above the pavement. This will help your trees stay healthy and the trucks unscathed. Given recent warm weather, now is actually a perfect time to do your trimming.
