MILLCREEK PROMISE LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE WELCOME TO THE VIRTUAL MILLCREEK PROMISE MEETING NOVEMBER 2020 ---PAGE BREAK--- Meeting Opening Name Organization How are you managing COVID 19? ---PAGE BREAK--- Meeting Results Leadership Committee Check-in COVID INTERVENTION UPDATES (EMAILED) COVID Equity Holiday Card and Millcreek enewsletter sign ups! ---PAGE BREAK--- EDUCATION AND HEALTH SUBCOMMITTEES (COVID Merger) Today’s Presenter Chris Dammert United Way of Salt Lake ---PAGE BREAK--- REASONS FOR TEMPORARILY MERGING HEALTH AND ED. ◼Both Subcommittees have shifted their focus towards the realm of mental health and expanding a sense of support/ community amongst students, parents, and educators in a time of COVID and COVID restrictions. ---PAGE BREAK--- DESIRED OUTCOME AND INDICATORS Result: ◼All Millcreek residents, students, and educators have increased access to mental health support as well as support/access for distance learning. ◼Outcomes: ◼The suicide rate in Millcreek/Skyline is ◼All students, families, and educators in Millcreek are healthy and have the resources that they need to solve problems and make healthy choices. ◼All students in Millcreek are testing at or above grade level. ---PAGE BREAK--- DESIRED OUTCOME AND INDICATORS Outcome: All students at Mill Creek Elementary perform at or above grade level. Indicators: ◼SAGE/RISE scores ◼DIBELS scores ◼RWK! Improvements ◼SL County Youth Services Afterschool Program ◼iReady diagnostic tests ---PAGE BREAK--- DESIRED OUTCOME AND INDICATORS Outcome: ◼The Suicide rate at Millcreek is 0% ◼All students, families, and educators in Millcreek are healthy and have the resources that they need to solve problems and make healthy choices. Indicators: ---PAGE BREAK--- Populations GOAL: All students and families in Millcreek are healthy and are able to solve problems and make healthy choices Students Parents/Family Community Teachers/Staff ---PAGE BREAK--- PROGRESS, KEY INSIGHTS, OR BRIGHT SPOTS ◼ Shifted focus to digital/distance learning ◼ RWK! Volunteer program has 45 registered volunteers that cannot volunteer due to COVID. To respond they have launched a virtual option with 7 volunteers and 7 kids with Americorps. ◼ iReady Math tutoring program has been launched @ Millcreek elementary in partnership with Mark Miller Subaru. There are currently 40 3rd grade students enrolled in the program. ◼ Progress in both is being tracked and monitored by a team comprised of iReady, Millcreek Elementary, Americorps and UWSL staff members. ◼ Diagnostic tests have revealed that one 45 minute block of tutoring per week has begun to yield positive results. ◼ The SL County Youth Services Afterschool program is still operating virtually and wrapping up their annual report. ---PAGE BREAK--- PROGRESS, KEY INSIGHTS, OR BRIGHT SPOTS ◼The partnership pulled together mental health resources information and distributed it through the city digital newsletters, social media, and web platforms ---PAGE BREAK--- Current Avenues Being Explored ◼Advocacy Campaign to help strengthen relationship between families, educators, and afterschool program providers. ◼Creating online spaces to help combat digital burnout/ digital aversion. ◼Digital platform education and dissemination for parents (how to use online resources, how to get access, etc.) ◼Additional support from afterschool providers to help bolster in-class and after school attendance. ---PAGE BREAK--- HELP THE TEAM NEEDS TO MAKE PROGRESS ◼Mill Creek Elementary is taking mask donations for students – these can be homemade. ◼Other ideas? ◼Recognizing the growing need to support not only mental health, but physical health as well, does anyone have recommendations for how the health sub- committee can support ongoing efforts in Millcreek? ◼Please contact Chris Dammert at: [EMAIL REDACTED] ---PAGE BREAK--- ECONOMIC WELLBEING AND SAFETY SUBCOMMITTEES (COVID Merger) Today’s Presenter Ashley Cleveland Millcreek Promise Program ---PAGE BREAK--- REASONS FOR TEMPORARILY MERGING HEALTH AND ED. ◼Both Subcommittees have shifted their focus towards the realm of digital inclusion, expanding housing assistance funding, and updating resources on the city website. ◼The goal is for Millcreek children, families, and low income individuals feel safer, supported and adequately resourced in a time of COVID and COVID restrictions. ---PAGE BREAK--- SSC COVID PRIORITIES GOAL: All Millcreek families have access to resources and opportunities to keep their families safe and improve their quality of life. HOLLADAY HILLS APARTMENTS FAMILY OFFENSES PARENT ENGAGEMENT CHRONIC ABSENCE HOUSING ---PAGE BREAK--- EWSC COVID PRIORITIES GOAL: All Millcreek families are financially capable and able to provide for their families and improve their quality of life. MENTAL HEALTH HOUSING ADULT EDUCATION FAMILY SUPPORTING WAGE- ALL SOURCES DIGITAL INCLUSION ---PAGE BREAK--- COVID Action Brainstorming STRATEGY 1: UPDATING MILLCREEK SAFETY WEBPAGE Utilize existing web page to better share identified resources around Mill Creek Elementary Action(s): Millcreek Promise Safety Subcommittee is creating content. We need to meet with more organizations to get a detailed scope of services. Overlap? STRATEGY 2: COLABORATIVE CODE ENFORCEMENT Work with SL County Health, Housing Authority of SL, Millcreek PTA, Millcreek Precinct, Property owners, and property management to see how we can improve resources & outcomes for families at that complex. Action(s): We’ve reached out to Millcreek Code Enforcement, Housing Authority, and will be strategizing how to engage property owner and management. Overlap? STRATEGY 3: RESOURCE PANTRY AT HOLLADAY HILLS APARTMENTS Work with Mill Creek El. Social worker, Evergreen Jr. and existing community resources to highlight the existing resources and have families utilize them. Action(s): MP SSC Member & PTA president will reach out to social worker and both principals for thoughts. MP SSC Member will reach out to existing resources from their profession (LMSW) October 2020. Overlap? All strategies are in an exploratory phase of gathering information on existing programs and opportunities. Action items have been assigned to group members for follow-up and assessment during February 2020 meeting. STRATEGY 1: Promise Internet Essentials Project & City Hall Drive up Internet Priority driver(s): Digital Inclusion Action • Promote Drive up Internet • Distribute Digital Devices • Get 200 families signed up for Promise IE Project ---PAGE BREAK--- DESIRED OUTCOME AND INDICATORS -All Millcreek families have access to resources and opportunities to keep their families safe and improve their quality of life. -All Millcreek Families are financially capable and able to provide for their families to improve their quality of life. ◼2020 population: Millcreek Community Council residents (84106/84107) Indicators ◼Unemployment/ Underemployment rate in 84106/ 84107 and % of 800 Millcreek households without internet service and % of residents who experience family offenses and % of residents with accessing housing assistance ---PAGE BREAK--- DESIRED OUTCOME AND INDICATORS Outcome: ◼At least 200 of the 800 Millcreek households without internet, have internet service. ◼Residents have Millcreek based resources for housing assistance. ◼Residents have access to DV prevention resources and DV assistance resources. ---PAGE BREAK--- PROGRESS, KEY INSIGHTS, OR BRIGHT SPOTS ◼ Shifted focus to digital inclusion and housing assistance ◼ A COVID-19 Equity and Racial Response Team (CERRT) is launching with Promise Partners and their volunteers. ◼ Millcreek Promise with CurlyMe!
