As we are closing the book on 2019 and reflecting on where we have been since incorporation three years ago, one thing stands out Millcreek is a wonderfully engaged community. Your city officials and staff count on residents to give input and help guide the vision of our city's future. Soon after incorporation, the Millcreek City Council adopted a Vision Statement for the city that highlighted the value that is placed on engagement and interaction with the community, ---PAGE BREAK--- 12/16/2019 Kudos to you 2/11 See agendas below both residents and businesses. This promise to the community is always the top priority when the city begins to consider any new initiative, be it a road capital improvement project, ordinance revision or a new program. MILLCREEK VISION STATE- MENT Millcreek is a diverse community where residents and businesses are empowered to respectfully engage and interact with each other in governance and volunteerism to maintain a fiscally responsible, environmentally sustainable City that provides a "welcome home' feeling to everyone - past, present and future. Through the almost three years since incorporation, we have invited and welcomed community participation at open houses and presentations at City Hall. Councilmembers and staff regularly attend important meetings and events throughout the community, where we have the opportunity to meet and engage in conversations with residents. You'll see us at community council meetings, neighborhood meetings and other special events such as movie nights or the pop-up dinner. We read and respond to your emails and phone calls. Click here for our contact information. This coming Monday the Millcreek City Council will be holding the last Council meeting of 2019. At this meeting, as at every council meeting, one of the first items on the agenda is public input. The City Council appreciates and thanks residents who have taken their valuable time to attend meetings at City Hall and let the council know what is on their mind. We have heard from residents about a wide range of subjects and take these comments to heart. During the public comment period of the City Council's 12/9/19 meeting, Millcreek resident Marv Poulsen made recommendations for a forestry plan for the City Center area. Many of our residents' comments have begun in-depth conversations ---PAGE BREAK--- 12/16/2019 Kudos to you 3/11 that have helped contribute to and shape the direction of City policy on a variety of issues. As we continue to maintain and build our existing community, we want to ensure that Millcreek stays a place where people want to live and raise their families. Please keep those letters, e-mails and comments coming! P.S. The Accessory Dwelling Unit and Arts Discovery surveys are still open. Please click on the links to participate. City Officials Catch Up on Business Licensing Backlog ---PAGE BREAK--- 12/16/2019 Kudos to you 4/11 MILLCREEK. One of the challenges since Millcreek incorporated has been getting caught up on years of neglected business license accounts. By ordinance, anyone conducting a business within the City must obtain a business license. See Millcreek Ord. Title 5 - Business Licenses and Regulations. This gives the City an opportunity to protect the public by ensuring that each business meets health, zoning, building, fire, safety, and other regulations. Pre-incorporation, many Millcreek businesses had not complied with the County's similar ordinance, either by not applying in the first place, or by not renewing annually. Bringing neglected business license accounts into compliance has been a big undertaking for Business License Administrator Alex Wendt and Business License Assistant Josie Angerhofer. Alex and Josie are pleased to report that more than 400 businesses with expired licenses, some dating back to 2016, have been licensed and/or renewed. Alex's and Josie's efforts have recovered $104,986 in expired license fees for the City, which funds will help offset the cost of the inspections. The Millcreek Business License team is another example of hard working city employees. ---PAGE BREAK--- 12/16/2019 Kudos to you 5/11 East Mill Creek Community Emergency Cache Relocation a Success MILLCREEK. With re-construction of Skyline High underway, the community's emergency supply cache in the parking lot needed to be temporarily relocated. Volunteers on a chilly Saturday morning cleaned, took inventory, restocked, and completed the relocation to Wasatch Jr. High. Thank you to everyone who helped out, with special shout-outs to Scott Nix for his commendable efforts to make this happen, Lisa Bagley chair of VOAD (Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters), and Council Member Cheri Jackson, who dove right in and vacuumed up any unpleasantness. The relocation of this emergency cache is a wonderful example of coordination between the East Mill Creek Community Council, Millcreek volunteers, and the Granite School District. We are thankful to the various Millcreek community councils who have established and stocked these cache sites. For those not familiar with the program, these caches (there are several in Millcreek) contain supplies to be used by CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) trained volunteers in an emergency. The caches contain items like medical supplies (gauze, bandages, etc), tools (shovels, crowbars and cribbing materials) and some paper products. The caches do not contain personal supplies like food or water, so it's important that each family have a 96-hour kit for each family member. Millcreek participates in the S.A.F.E (Schools Aid Families in Emergencies) program. In the event of an emergency, if a family needs to evacuate their home, they should grab their 96-hour kit and walk to the closest elementary school, not the cache site. These cache sites, in conjunction with the CERT program, can save lives in a major disaster and CERT ---PAGE BREAK--- 12/16/2019 Kudos to you 6/11 trained residents are key. If you are interested, would like to learn more or get involved, please contact Andrew Clark, the city Emergency Manager, at [EMAIL REDACTED] . An emergency will happen in our community at some time in what we hope is the far distant future but we all need to get prepared now. This is how you can help! Get involved! Millcreek resident Alysia Watanabe enjoys "Dingo & Aldo Tree" currently displayed at City Hall. Dingo and Aldo were K-9 officers who gave their lives while protecting UPD officers. In honor of these K-9 officers, Senator Jani Iwamoto spent her time, energy and money to create this tree for the annual Festival of Trees fund-raiser for Intermountain Healthcare. The tree was then purchased and donated to the City for this year's holiday season.
