On Wednesday, June 12 from 7 to 9 PM, there will be an open house at Millcreek City Hall (3330 S 1300 E) for residents of Olympus Cove to learn more about proposed new flood plain maps in their neighborhood. The Utah Division of Emergency Management (DEM), the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the City of Millcreek, and Salt Lake County are working together to update flood maps for the Jordan Watershed, which includes Neff’s Creek, located in Olympus Cove. FEMA has released the preliminary (draft) Flood Insurance Rate Map estimated to become effective in 2019, and depicted above. The map provides updated flood risk information for Olympus Cove and designates the floodplain along Neff’s Creek as an active alluvial fan. (An alluvial fan is a fan-shaped area where rivers and streams deposit silt, sand, gravel, boulders and woody debris over time. Active alluvial fans are prone to sudden, unpredictable flood events.) Note that the new flood plain designation may impact remodeling or building plans. ---PAGE BREAK--- 6/10/2019 Candidates set for November election 8/13 Come to the Open House this coming Wednesday, June 12th, 2019, from 7 to 9 pm, at Millcreek City Hall (3330 S 1300 E) to learn more about how the new flood maps will impact your property.
