When Millcreek incorporated just five years ago, work began right away on the Millcreek General Plan. Extensive public outreach efforts were made to be certain to capture what residents felt most important for our new city. Time and time again the message came through that what Millcreek was lacking was a downtown or "City Center" to represent Millcreek's new standing as a city of more than 64,000 people. We are proud to say that we soon will have an official Millcreek City Center, complete with Millcreek Common, a one of a kind plaza for residents to visit to ice/roller skate, eat tasty food, enjoy events and art performances and mingle with friends and neighbors. Facing on the Common will be the new City Hall which will include a ground floor Marketplace, city offices, and a top floor Community Room. The ground floor Marketplace will host incubator space for local restaurateurs, a coffee/snack bar and rotating vendors including a seasonal Farmers Market. The top floor Community Room will be available for city related meetings and events and also for rent to the public. This room will have the capacity to seat 180 patrons for a banquet and even more for a conference. It will have fantastic mountain views. The third floor of the building will be home to the Millcreek UPD Precinct—a badly needed improvement from their current offices on 39th South. Plans have been in the works for several years and the completion of City Hall will line up with the date that the lease on the current City Hall space runs out. Residents are invited to the Millcreek City Hall Groundbreaking on Thursday, March 17th, from 4 to 5 pm. Help us turn the shovels for City Hall construction and take a sneak peak of the Millcreek Common Skate Loop, the largest outdoor ice skating area in Utah (also available for summertime roller skating). ---PAGE BREAK--- FOR MORE INFORMATION, OR IF YOU HAVE Register HERE for follow-up information and parking instructions ---PAGE BREAK--- OR IF YOU HAVE COMMENTS ABOUT CITY REDISTRICTING PLEASE CLICK HERE. There is a onetime start-up fee of $60 to pay for the can, and at $126 per year, a green waste can is less expensive than an additional black garbage can at $204 per year. For more information on this program, please visit the Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District website. HELP MONARCH BUTTERFLIES BY PLANTING MILKWEED Soon we'll be getting out to do spring planting. Those who should continue to get tested include: Those with significant underlying conditions. Getting tested gives these people who test positive a chance to be considered for treatments like monoclonal antibodies or antiviral pills. Learn more at atments or talk to your doctor. If you’re going to visit someone who is vulnerable (for example people over 75 years, immunocompromised, receiving immunosuppressive medication) If you’ve been sick but are getting better and want to confirm you are negative If you’re traveling somewhere that requires a negative test Elderly Those who work with vulnerable populations: Healthcare workers Long-term care facility employees People living or working in congregate settings including prisons and homeless shelters 2nd Boosters? 4th Doses? Here's some information that the state Health Department wants you to know. There’s a lot of confusion about 2nd boosters, 4th doses, and yes, we’ve even heard misinformation around 5th doses of the COVID-19 vaccines. We get it, recommendations change and sometimes the vocabulary being used isn’t familiar. As science evolves and medical experts learn more, guidelines can and will change to help you make the best decisions for yourself and your family. For most people, the primary series for the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines is 2 doses or 1 dose of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine. After a certain amount of time, and depending on which vaccine you had for your primary series, you’ll be eligible for a booster dose. Keep in mind, there’s no “2nd boosters” - it’s more likely you fall into a group of people who need an additional primary dose series (and then a booster dose). In February, the CDC updated its guidance for how many COVID-19 vaccines people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised need. People who have certain health conditions or take certain medicines that weaken their immune system don’t have as robust of an immune response to the vaccines as other people and need additional protection from COVID-19. They are also more likely to suffer from severe illness or be ---PAGE BREAK--- hospitalized if they get COVID-19. Everyone who qualifies is encouraged to get vaccinated and boosted. For additional information or to find a vaccination clinic, visit the Salt Lake County Health Department website.
