MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Churchill Jr. High School May 1, 2018 INTRODUCTIONS: Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of Council Members In Attendance: David Baird (Chair), John Knoblock, Kumar Shah, Ken Smith, Pasu Pasupathi, Brian Jorgenson, Richard Williamson, Joy Goddard, and Joan Haven Excused: Chuck Pruitt Minutes: Minutes from the last meeting were discussed and approved. REPORTS: Unified Police Department Report: Detective Ronnie Prescott reviewed the Case Report for April 2018. Crime was relatively low, although there were several vehicle burglaries with unlocked doors. The local bank robbery was the unusual event. We discussed vehicles and after hours use of the Churchill JH parking lot and suggested this could be policed by the new Crime Suppression Unit. Legislative: Jani Iwamoto reviewed her legislation which she said was 90% Millcreek related. Bills included police dogs, fireworks, pediatric trauma unit and naturalization. Patrice Arent reviewed her legislation which included identity theft, diesel emissions, DAQ staffing and research. Refer to le.ut.gov for details. Business Francis Lilly, Planning: 1) MDOZ- Proposed overlay zone would allow for innovative proposals for mixed use commercial developments. We suggested permissive language “may” versus obligatory language “shall” for approvals. Francis said that the overlay would be an arduous extra process for developers so that its use would be limited. 2) Accessory Buildings- We suggested that these buildings be specified ‘non-dwelling’ buildings so that they are not used as rental or guest houses. Joan motioned and we approved a 24 foot height restriction. ---PAGE BREAK--- Wildfire Preparedness Day- Event is planned to kick-off our new community wildfire plan. David will send out a link to the fire hazard map on the ‘NextDoor’ web site. Mayor Jeff Silvestrini report: 1) Parkview lot rezone- Rezone was approved by the City Council with elevation limitations. 2) Skyline High School Rebuild Meeting- The second meeting was held and reported to be better planned than the controversial first meeting. 3) Town Center for ‘the Wedge Area’- Over 200 people attended the meeting which was positive. 4) UDOT 3900 S On-ramp to I-215- The ramp is being planned to be removed and possibly relocated to 4500 S. Joan suggested that this is the opportunity to relocate Wasatch Blvd next to I-215 to prevent “right turn in, right turn out traffic flow”, however that large expense is unlikely to be funded. Community Cleanup & Wasatch Beautification Planting- Planning for Sept 8 or 15. Possibly do some wildfire mitigation work also. CERT- May 10 meeting at the Millcreek City Hall. Meeting Adjourned at 8:30 pm. Minutes recorded and submitted by John Knoblock
