Over the last several weeks, Grandeur Peak hikers have reported seeing coyotes on the fire trail and above the water tanks on Crestwood Drive. If you hike in those areas or anywhere else on Grandeur Peak, be cautious. Recently, two coyotes were seen chasing after two golden retrievers, while another was reportedly stalking a hiker's pet. Local hikers speculate that a family of coyotes lives on Grandeur Peak. Oakview Drive Envision Committee, Weds.,11/8/17, CANCELED GENERAL ELECTION Tue., November 7, 2017 Visit our Community Calendar on how to avoid conflicts between your pets and coyotes. One of the biggest precautions you can take is to keep your dog leashed while on hikes which the law requires you to do on Grandeur Peak in any event. Wild Aware Utah also suggests taking the following steps if you encounter a coyote: Make noise while hiking to alert wildlife of your presence. Do not approach a coyote. Pick up small pets, make loud noises, stomp your feet, or throw rocks or sticks if necessary to frighten the coyote away. Do not run or turn your back on a coyote that has approached you. Face the coyote, shout at it, be as big and loud as possible, wave your arms and back away slowly. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources should be alerted of any aggressive wildlife. They can be contacted at (801) 538-4700. During non- business hours, you can contact the UPD at (801) 743-7000. Click here for more information on how to live with the wildlife in our area. You've been hearing a lot about the creation of our City's new General Plan. The plan will serve as a policy guide for the City over the next ten to twenty years. It will inform land use development and public investment decisions. We are encouraging all residents to join the process. We are currently at the visioning stage, which sets the foundation for the rest of the General Plan. It's a very important step. "If you don't know where you are going - you might end up someplace else." Yogi Berra. We held two community workshops this past week, and will have two more workshops this coming week. They will be held an hour before, and in conjunction with, the meetings of the Mt. Olympus Community Council and the Millcreek Community Council. Click here to see the invite.
