MILLCREEK. In this digital age, everything seems to be done online. We at Millcreek are always looking for new processes and technologies to streamline city services, both to help our residents and our staff. To that end, the Millcreek website was designed to be a one-stop-shop for all your questions. While we're proud of what we have been able to provide with our digital resources, we're always looking for ways to improve. The Millcreek Website Committee, comprised of one person from each city department, has been working hard for several months and collaborating on ---PAGE BREAK--- how to make the Millcreek website more user-friendly, accessibility-focused, and aesthetically pleasing. We now have a finished product, set to launch next Wednesday, May 10th! Here are some of the changes we're most excited about: ADA Accessibility and Updated Color Palette First and foremost, we took great care to ensure that our site was ADA compliant. All fonts across the website were updated to be more accessible for those with visual disabilities, and all images contain alt text. The round, blue icon on the right of the screen with the white figure opens the AudioEye Visual Toolkit, and can be found on any page of the website. AudioEye lets users with visual disabilities change the font on a page, adjust the spacing between lines or words, and adjust color contrast, all for an easier reading experience. The Google Translate feature in the bottom right of the page can translate all text on the page into a variety of languages. The color palette was updated to match the colors in our city logo, which were chosen to compliment the colors we see in Millcreek's diverse landscapes. You can also see references to Millcreek's landscapes in the background silhouettes, representing lush greenery, blue mountains, and flowing creeks. Popular Links ---PAGE BREAK--- Website analytics and information from City Hall's front desk staff showed that there were clear frontrunners in most visited pages and most asked questions regarding city services. Perhaps one of our most anticipated features, this "Popular Links" section will greatly reduce the amount of time it takes for our users to access are most frequently visited pages. They include: Electronic Newsletter Sign-Up: allows users to sign up for our Friday e- newsletter as well as view all past issues of the e-newsletter and our printed Millcreek News. Resident Info & Maps: our map gallery has a map for just about everything you're looking for--which utilities service your area, upcoming and completed construction projects, zoning for your property, floodplain zones, school boundaries, and much more. Millcreek Common: find hours, pricing, contact information, and upcoming events for Millcreek's new city center, Millcreek Common. Report a Concern: report a code violation or concern such as potholes, overgrown weeds, abandoned cars, etc. Business Licensing: all operating businesses in Millcreek must have a business license. This will direct you to our online application. Building Permits: all demolition, remodels, additions, and other building projects must obtain a building permit. This will direct you to our online application. Request an Inspection: this will direct you to our short, online form to request an inspection of your building project Agendas & Minutes: view all past and upcoming agendas for various entities, including City Council, Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, and more. Meeting Live Stream: can't make it to one of our public meetings in person? No problem, this will direct you to our live video stream so you can watch the meeting from home. Separate Events and Meetings Calendars ---PAGE BREAK--- Our calendar feature will now be separated into two tabs--"Community Events" and "Public Meetings." This will help users more easily find the event or meeting they're looking for instead of scrolling through a long list of all happenings for the entire month. The Community Events tab will feature city-sponsored events hosted by Millcreek Common, Venture Out, and the Millcreek Arts Council, Promise Program, and Business Council. The Public Meetings tab will include meeting dates for the City Council, Community Councils, Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Committee, and will also list federal holidays when City Hall will be closed. Millcreek's Social Media Channels While we are frequently updating the announcements on our website, you can usually find the most updated news on our social media sites. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so you can always stay in-the-know on upcoming construction projects, meeting times, events, and much more. ---PAGE BREAK--- All subpages of the website will also be updated to be consistent with the front page, including updated fonts, color palette, and an overall cleaner look. We hope you enjoy the new website! If you can't find what you're looking for on our website, you can always call us at [PHONE REDACTED]. TONIGHT & TOMORROW! THE WEATHER HAS COOLED DOWN A BIT AND THE MID-LEVEL SNOW MELT HAS SLOWED A LITTLE BUT WE ARE NOT OUT OF THE WOODS YET, THE FORECAST IS FOR THE MAJOR SNOW MELT IN MILLCREEK TO BE IN THE FIRST PART OF JUNE REMEMBER - VERY IMPORTANT! STAY AWAY FROM STREAMS! They are running fast and deep, people and pets can get swept away in just seconds. PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO CLEAR OUT ANY STORM DRAINS NEAR YOUR PROPERTY. Getting the snow melt into the storm drains is the best way to protect your property and those downhill. CLEAN DEBRIS AWAY FROM STREAM PATHS IF POSSIBLE. If a stream runs along your property and you notice debris (logs, lawn furniture, firewood, etc.) that may wash into and clog culverts, pull everything possible away from where the water may ---PAGE BREAK--- rise. If you notice a serious problem that should be inspected, call the city offices at [PHONE REDACTED]. If you see something, say something. Also, keep in mind that the best placement for sandbags may not be along the stream banks, water may rise the flow over them. Consider protecting your buildings, not necessarily your yard. Building Safety Month Continues with Week 2: Building Safety Professionals and You The theme for Week 2 explores how buiding safety professional impact our everyday lives at home or at work! While you’re probably very familiar with what your local police and fire departments do, you may be less familiar with building safety professionals. In that way, building safety professionals are the silent defenders of public safety. Here are a few things you should know: Building safety professionals include building inspectors of all kinds, building officials, plans examiners, permit technicians, fire marshals and more. Building safety professionals are constantly training and keeping up with the latest codes and standards. Their knowledge spans every aspect of the life of a building – from the bottom of the foundation to the top of the roof – and everything in between. Many building safety professionals have experience as architects, engineers, contractors or even government officials. There are many paths available to become a building safety professional. ---PAGE BREAK--- Learn about what building safety professionals do, and when to call them HERE NEXT SATURDAY Join us for the Millcreek Promise 2023 Fundraiser!
