Work on the General Plan began in 2017, shortly after Millcreek incorporated, and was adopted this past February. The two-year planning process brought together our residents and businesses to help the City chart a course for the future of Millcreek. The City Center Master Plan was an outgrowth of the General Plan process. This area was identified by many of you as an ideal place to create new opportunities for commercial and residential redevelopment. A public park will be the highlight of the City Center area. It will serve not only as a growth generator for private development interest, but as a central public gathering space that will become home to many of our entertainment and cultural institutions. The General Plan and the City Center Master Plan are both intended to guide future development in a manner that supports the Wasatch Choice 2050 vision for quality growth around centers and along corridors, while preserving the integrity and beauty of our existing single-family neighborhoods. The Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association celebrated these plans for their innovation, their commitment to public engagement, and their ability to guide the implementation of a broadly-held community vision, particularly as the region faces unprecedented economic and population growth. Congratulations and thanks to the thousands of you who engaged and participated in these planning efforts! ---PAGE BREAK--- 10/14/2019 Millcreek garners two awards for planning 3/13 City Awarded $136K to Help Bring Jordan River Parkway to Millcreek MILLCREEK. Millcreek has been awarded a $68,000 grant from the LeRay McAllister Critical Land Conservation Fund. The grant will be matched by Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation, for a total award of $136,000. Administered by the Utah Quality Growth Commission, the funding will help us take a huge step forward toward establishing the Jordan River Parkway in Millcreek. The Jordan River runs through Millcreek between 39th South and 42nd South. Just to the south of 39th South, the parkway crosses a bridge to the west side of the River, and then runs south through Taylorsville. Millcreek has been working with Salt Lake County and Murray City to eventually have the parkway also run along the east side of the river as it goes through our city and then into Murray. “We appreciate your efforts to conserve Utah’s critical lands and improve the quality of life of the residents of Millcreek and the state as a whole,” said Evan Curtis, State Planning Coordinator, in his announcement praising the vision of Millcreek’s leaders. “The Commission appreciates the work being done along the Jordan River and we look forward to working with you again on future projects when additional funding becomes available.” TOMORROW ---PAGE BREAK--- 10/14/2019 Millcreek garners two awards for planning 4/13 TOMORROW When: Saturday, 12 Oct 2019, 8:30-10 am Where: Adib's Rug Gallery - 3092 South Highland Drive The goal of this meeting is to give the design team guidance as they refine a concept for the Mountair Streetscape. Our local Forest Ranger District started a new program this year the Adopt-A-Trail program successfully used around the country to help maintain hiking trails in our National Forests. Businesses or other organizations can maintain a trail by cutting back brush and repairing water drainage. We have more trails in the Wasatch than our Ranger District has staff to maintain. The Cottonwood Canyons Foundation volunteered to set up and start the program this summer with a small number of volunteer groups. Our Mt. Olympus Community Council is one of those groups. They have chosen our local Neffs Canyon Trail to help maintain. In two work parties, they have improved drainage and cut back brush about halfway up the six-mile trail. The final work party of the year will be a week from tomorrow, on October 19th. at 9 am, meeting at the Neffs Canyon Trailhead parking lot. Come join the group! Bring gloves, glasses, good hiking shoes, water, and food. Bring brush loppers if you have some, but there will be some tools available.
