The City Council has adopted the firework restrictions map shown above, which was developed in coordination with the Fire Marshal. The restricted areas will be the same as last year with the addition of two city parks —fireworks are restricted in all areas of Millcreek east of 900 East and west of 700 West as well as in Scott Avenue and Sunnyvale Parks. Our wet winter has contributed to the growth of weeds and underbrush, all of which are prime fuel sources for wildfires. We hear that this year we can expect an early and busy fire season and that many of the recent fires that have broken out throughout the state are human caused. It is important that the irresponsible use of fireworks does not cause increased problems. We understand that fireworks are a fun family tradition for many families. Yet they are also divisive and many residents (including veterans) and their pets are caused extreme distress by the loud noises. Fireworks are also terrible for our air quality. This presents the city council with a difficult dilemma and the restriction determination was made based on the professional assessment of risk by the fire marshal. ---PAGE BREAK--- On July 3rd, Millcreek will be providing a drone show on Millcreek Common as an alternative to fireworks. We hope Millcreek residents will join us for that show and for the East Mill Creek Lions Club 4th of July breakfast, parade and midway. EVENTS TONIGHT ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- Final Night! The first project, located on 900 East between 3900 South and 4500 South, involved full-depth roadway reconstruction and improvements to the sidewalk, curb and gutter, widened shoulders, bike lanes, and street lights. Similarly, the project on 2000 East, between 3300 South and Siggard Avenue, significantly improved the accessibility and safety of the area, as well as piping the west-side irrigation ditch and complete reconstruction of the roadway. We appreciate everyone's patience during the construction activities for these projects. The 2000 East Improvement project may experience intermittent road closures as crews are completing minor punch list items along the corridor. These closures are necessary to ensure the final touches are done to the highest standards, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. ---PAGE BREAK--- ---PAGE BREAK--- Please join Wasatch Lawn's Back to School Supplies Drive to help eliminate some stress this back-to-school season, we are accepting all school supplies until July 31, 2024. On June 20th, Councilmember Silvia Catten joined with Rocky Mountain Power in a celebration of the completion of the company's fast EV charging station in Millcreek. The project is part of RMP's Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan, which includes a $50 million investment in electric vehicle charging infrastructure for Utahns across the state. Expanding the network of chargers to different parts of Utah will increase the accessibility of charging stations and make electric vehicles more practical for a wider range of drivers, including those living in urban and suburban areas. Customers of RMP will receive a discounted rate on charging throughout the state The new stations, developed in collaboration with Electrify America business unit Electrify Commercial, will build on an established network and significantly increase the number of fast chargers along the Wasatch Front and in other areas of the state. ---PAGE BREAK--- On July 3rd, Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District will join other organizations around the world in support of International Plastic Bag Free Day (http://www.plasticbagfreeday.org/).
