Perhaps a snooze to some, but many Millcreek residents voted to incorporate so we could update decades-old zoning ordinances. These laws have simply not kept up with growth nor given us sufficient tools to pursue improving our community in creative ways or in the right locations. Revising the zoning code that we adopted from the county when we incorporated is a crucial process to moving forward. The first new tool we are working on is the creation of a new Mixed Development (MD) zone. The zone change won't be applied at this point to any specific area. But in the future, property owners will be able to seek MD zoning in order to pursue a greater variety of uses in the Meadowbrook area of the City (west of State Street). The MD zone would promote a very urban setting in an area of our community that has been somewhat neglected and which is adjacent to TRAX. A public hearing on the new proposed MD zone will be held before the Planning Commission on Wednesday, March 15th at 5 pm at the Salt Lake County Government Center in Council chambers (on the main floor of the north building). Here is a draft of the proposed ordinance. Please come get your questions answered and your comments heard. Thank you for doing business in our community! Send us your articles, photos of Millcreek, and ideas, for use in this newsletter and in the City's mailer. An open house will be held on March 29th, also at the County Government Center, to discuss changes to the Commercial zones. The tentative schedule for updating ordinances has us revising the Residential Multiple-Family, Commercial, and Manufacturing zones, rewriting the Conditional Use chapter, preparing new definitions, and crafting a design ordinance. Eventually, we will be updating almost every paragraph in the zoning ordinance. Keep your eye out here and on the website for open houses and public hearings. We want as much input from the Millcreek community as we can get. Spring Brings Curbside Green MILLCREEK.
