TEMPORARY WINTER OVERFLOW HOUSING; RENT HELP; MILLCREEK'S COVID-19 STATS; HOLIDAY COVID-19; etc. View this email in your browser This former senior living facility in Millcreek will serve this winter as temporary housing for people transitioning out of homelessness. ---PAGE BREAK--- Announcements No Public Meetings Scheduled for the Week of December 7th NEWS New Temporary Winter Overflow Housing to Open in Millcreek MILLCREEK. The Salt Lake Valley Coalition to End Homelessness (SLVCEH) announced a new temporary housing facility to be located in Millcreek as part of its winter overflow system. Millcreek Temporary Winter Housing will be located in the former Osmond Senior Living Memory Care facility on 950 East 3300 South in Millcreek. It will provide 60 beds in a non- congregate setting, or up to 75 under emergency conditions. The use will begin as soon as next week, and will end by no later than April 15th. The facility will will provide temporary housing during the freezing winter to people who have already accepted help to transition out of homelessness. Because it is not a walk-in shelter, we do not anticipate that there will be lines of people outside. The use of this facility as temporary housing is a permitted one in the zone in which it is located. As such, no public hearing will be held (nor is one allowed by ordinance). "We are heading into a Utah winter in the middle of the pandemic,” said Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini, “and it’s going to be a hard time for a lot of people. I'm pleased that our city can be a safe place, at least through this winter, for Utahns experiencing homelessness to call home as they transition to more stable living arrangements." Millcreek Temporary Winter Housing will be operated by Switchpoint, which runs the Switchpoint Community Resource Center in St. George. ---PAGE BREAK--- While we anticipate that the Transitional Housing Facility will be well-managed, we want you to know that you can call the following numbers if you have a question or a concern about the operation of the facility: Switchpoint – Service Provider – [PHONE REDACTED] Francis Xavier Lilly, Millcreek Planning Director, 801-214- 2752, [EMAIL REDACTED] UPD Non-Emergency Dispatch - [PHONE REDACTED] ---PAGE BREAK--- The deadline for individuals to apply to the State of Utah for rent relief is December 15, 2020. Our holiday traditions are still here, they'll just look a little different. Coping with the holidays and COVID-19 ---PAGE BREAK--- Health data shows that the two week pause in social contact the Governor ordered before Thanksgiving worked to lower the case rate. The rate is expected to rise again due to the holiday gatherings but the good news is that we can reduce cases and bring relief to our health care workers if we are careful about limiting interactions with people outside of our households, wearing masks and distancing. Avoid Flu-kes COVID-19 isn’t the only disease that can spread during the holidays. An easy way to prevent the spread of the flu this season is for you and others to get the flu shot. This is more important than ever right now! Hospitals need the space for COVID- 19 patients, so reducing the spread of the flu will be a HUGE help.
