MILLCREEK WORKS TO COORDINATE UTILITY PROJECTS WITH EACH OTHER AND WITH ROAD REPAVING SCHEDULES MILLCREEK. The various utilities that provide services in Millcreek occasionally must perform construction projects that cut into our roadways. We hold regular meetings with all utilities in an effort to coordinate their projects. Utilities are also notified when the City will be performing construction on roadways, and they are encouraged to complete any needed work at the same time. We aren't always successful, but these measures are intended to avoid streets being torn up repeatedly, causing our residents inconvenience and reducing the life of our roadways. We recently passed an ordinance that requires anyone who cuts into a public Subscribe Past Issues Translate ---PAGE BREAK--- 11/1/2018 We are moving! / Sept 18th and 20th agendas 3/10 road that's been repaved or restored within the preceding three years to resurface the entire width of the road, curb to curb, to a length of fifty feet from each side of the cut they've made. Andi Mack, a popular Disney Channel series, is filmed in various locations around the Salt Lake Valley. On September 23rd, the production will be filming at Wasatch Jr. High School. You may see trailers, cameras, and all of the usual movie-making equipment, and maybe even one of the stars. But please watch from afar and try not to interfere with filming. All you Millcreek fans of Andi Mack should keep your eyes open when you're watching. You may catch a glimpse of a familiar building. CITY COUNCIL APPROVES Subscribe Past Issues Translate ---PAGE BREAK--- 11/1/2018 We are moving! / Sept 18th and 20th agendas 4/10 RESOLUTION TO LEAVE SLVLESA MILLCREEK. Several months ago, we learned that Herriman and Riverton planned to leave the Salt Lake Valley Law Enforcement Service Area (SLVLESA). This is the taxing entity that collects the taxes and hires the Unified Police Department (UPD) to provide members of SLVLESA with police services. That would have left Millcreek as the only city left in SLVLESA, along with the municipal townships and the unincorporated county. (Regardless of whether they are in SLVLESA, all of these cities and entities, including Millcreek, will continue to receive police services from the UPD.) Millcreek has more than 40% of the remaining population and more than 54% of the property value on which taxes are assessed. But it would have only one vote on a nine-member governing board. We thus commissioned a study to determine what the financial impact would be if Millcreek also left SLVLESA. Last Monday, we had a public hearing on the results of the study. More than 80 members of the public attended. Our consultant presented the study, which shows little if any financial impact. Millcreek Precinct Chief Steve DeBry, the consultant, and Mayor Silvestrini answered several questions raised by the audience. At the end of the hearing, the City Council polled the audience and not a single person raised a hand in opposition to leaving SLVLESA. Following the hearing, the City Council voted unanimously to leave SLVLESA. Notice to the SLVLESA board has been given. Next year's property tax notice will reflect the change, showing that Millcreek will be collecting the taxes to pay for the UPD's services. This change will provide the city with more flexibility in funding police services and could result in increasing the number of officers in Millcreek. Starting on Friday, September 22nd, I-80 westbound to I-215 southbound will be closed. You won't be able to get onto I- 215 when you reach the bottom of Parleys Canyon. UDOT's suggested detour is a U-turn on 7th East. Here's UDOT's weekly report. One benefit of all of this construction has been some pretty nice photos of Mt. Olympus! Thanks for those, UDOT.
