1 Job Announcement Economic Development Assistant Opens: Tuesday, January 23, 2024 Closes: Tuesday, February 6, 2024 Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt Hourly Wage: $25.00 Competitive Benefits Package—see pages 6-7 Under the direction of the City Manager/Economic Development Director, the Economic Development Assistant provides highly responsible and complex administrative and technical support associated with the City’s Administration and Economic Development. This position is also responsible for assisting in the recruitment, retention, and expansion of business and organizations within the City. In essence, this position serves three roles: 1) the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Mayor and City Manager/Economic Development Director, 2) the other half of the City’s Economic Development Department, and 3) the City’s administrator of the Millcreek Business Council (similar to a city’s chamber of commerce). Attend meetings and prepare letters, reports, memos, presentations, minutes, newsletter articles, and other general correspondence as needed. 2. Schedule and organize meetings and conferences for the Mayor and the City Manager/Economic Development Director. 3. Maintain filing system for Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) documents and other department files. 4. Assist with communication outreach to area business leaders as needed. 5. Serves as staff support to the Millcreek Business Council including event preparation, recruiting Business Council Committee members, social media management and marketing, ribbon cutting ceremony assistance, wearing the Milo the Millcreek Moose mascot costume, etc. 6. Recruit and manage volunteers for Millcreek Business Council events. 7. Represent the Economic Development Department at intergovernmental meetings as needed. ---PAGE BREAK--- 2 8. Provide first-contact assistance to the general public seeking information about economic development within the City. 9. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. Education and Experience: a. Bachelor’s degree from an institutionally accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, management, marketing, communications, political science, or a closely related field. OR b. Associate degree or two years of educational training beyond high school from an institutionally accredited college or university with course work in business, accounting, office administration, communications, political science, or a closely related field; and at least two years of highly responsible administrative support experience, event management, or community and intergovernmental relations required. 2. Special Qualifications: a. Valid Utah Class D Driver’s License required. b. Positive and enthusiastic attitude toward the City and its personnel, projects, and goals. 3. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: a. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft products and general office equipment. b. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing (i.e. by phone, email, text, and in-person). c. Outstanding customer service skills and problem-solving abilities. d. Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information. e. Excellent organizational skills including the preservation of electronic and paper filing systems, and maintaining public records and documents in accordance with GRAMA. f. Ability to interact in a professional manner with elected officials, the public, City stakeholders, and City staff. g. Ability to multitask, exercise initiative and independent judgment, and adapt to stressful and unexpected situations. h. Skill in managing various social media platforms and simple design software. WORKING CONDITIONS 1. Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with some travel to different sites to attend meetings, events, etc. in indoor and outdoor environments. Incumbent may be required to travel outside City boundaries to attend meetings. Light physical effort and usually comfortable working positions. 2. Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, ---PAGE BREAK--- 3 push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to verbally communicate to exchange information; and to wear the City mascot costume at City events. 3. Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction 4. Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. 5. Attendance/Work Schedule: Employee is expected to be physically in the City offices during normal business hours Monday through Friday, however incumbent may be required to work extended hours as needed.
