MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Meeting held at Churchill Jr. High School June 6th, 2017 INTRODUCTIONS Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of Council Members In Attendance: David Baird (Chair), Bill Blatter, Joy Goddard, Joan Haven, John Knoblock, Pasu Pasupathi, Ken Smith, and Richard Williamson (minutes) Excused: Chuck Pruitt and Kumar Shah Minutes: Minutes from May 16th, 2017 were discussed and approved, and with special thanks to John Knoblock for his assistance. REPORTS and BUSINESS: 1. Unified Police Department Report (by Detective Ronnie Prescott) a. Reviewed Case Report for May 2017, Stats for Mt Olympus 310 calls. Warmer weather (from April to May) showed increased crime reports b. Latest News Alert (on 6/6/17) – Sandy shooting c. graffiti issues in/around MOCC were discussed d. graffiti car headlights spray painted black (Bill i. Report graffiti to Nancy White at the Unified Police Department, [EMAIL REDACTED] [PHONE REDACTED]. e. UPD – getting cameras for uniformed police officers f. Moose sighting in upper cove neighborhood g. Neff’s Cnyn parking lot, MOCC asked for more patrols, homeless population seems to be increasing with the warmer weather h. MOCC asked for additional Speed Enforcement at “hot spot” areas regarding neighborhood safety i. Upcoming Venture in the Park, Canyon Rim Fri 6/9/17, Eastwood Elem. on 6/16/17… 2. Unified Fire Authority Report will be presented at next meeting. [Capt. Ayers was excused from MOCC meeting for 6/6/17] ---PAGE BREAK--- 3. Millcreek Scavenger Hunt (David a. MOCC unanimously agreed that the “waterwheel” is one of the best landmarks for the Mt. Olympus area, and will be the site used for the upcoming Millcreek scavenger hunt b. 1st Sat in July –table set up and staffed (by David B, et al) to sign off on scavenger hunt c. Point of Contact – Caroline Russell who helped get the project going d. (Ken Boy Scout Eagle Project in the past helped clean up the “waterwheel” area. Weeds and overgrowth will need to be addressed. e. More info TBA 4. Report on Outreach meeting 10 different Fire Departments in SL wide, UFA (Joan a. Wildland Fire Hazard – highest threat to residents in the Mt. Olympus area b. Firefighting equipment (for Wildland fires) located in Herriman. MOCC questioning UFA about local (Mt Olympus) resources and timeliness needed for urgency with fire control during the event of a brushfire and in the surrounding hillsides to include Millcreek Cnyn/Neff’s Cnyn/Mt Olympus/Grandeur Peak c. Evacuation Plan and signage (escape routes) i. Plan needs to include key locations and intersections, and during any fire emergency, residents and visitors will need UPD support for traffic control and removal of bystanders, to allow EMS / Firetrucks quick access and allow any endangered residents to have open egress ii. David B. and Joy G. are familiar with every street in Mt Olympus for efficient evacuation, and they will follow up with Official Planning and signage requests 5. Drive Cleanup discussion (Kyle Taft) a. 2nd Saturday in Aug (Aug 12th) b. Guy Woodbury Chairman for Fundraising Campaign c. Greg Bertola succeeding Kyle Taft as Mt. Olympus Stake liaison with MOCC d. Landscaping and water line discussion e. More info TBA 6. Problem with parking on street – code enforcement questions (local residents) a. Unlicensed RV parked on street? b. Near Wasatch Blvd & E. Hermes Dr. c. UPD stated that local code enforcement can correct those kind of disturbances through the established formal process d. David B. will follow up with officials and local residents who are affected e. More info TBA 7. Discussion regarding Millcreek’s proposed budget 2018 (see Excel file 05-22-17 Amended Tentative Proposed Budget 2018). (David a. Millcreek’s Fiscal Year (FY) is from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 b. New Millcreek office bld announced (rented space) at 3300 S & 1300 E ---PAGE BREAK--- c. Millcreek City Council has been very careful with estimating budget plans, MSD changes, and negotiating new service contracts. d. MOCC expressed appreciation to our City Council, SLCo, and all the organizations who have made contributions and In-kind donations to Millcreek City (start-up). 8. Discussion regarding “Resolution Opposing Solar Power Rate Restructuring” (David a. Review of business model, infrastructure costs, contribution margin vs. fixed expenses b. Each MOCC member took opportunity to discuss concerns c. (David MOCC called to a vote to decide if MOCC would support the opposition letter, and Majority voted in the affirmative. David B will follow up with writing and sending the letter. 9. IRS Land Auction affecting Open Space areas above Crestwood Dr. and for continuing Bonneville shoreline trail (David a. SLCo won the bid and the purchase cost was lower than anticipated b. More info TBA 10. MOCC Business to discuss at next meeting: a. CERT/Neighborhood Watch/VIPS… b.
