Summer events are moving into high gear with something for everyone!! Bring the family and enjoy all the exciting things Millcreek has to offer. Be one of the first to try out the Skate Loop at Millcreek Common, Utah’s largest outdoor skating venue with roller skating in the summer and ice ---PAGE BREAK--- Millcreek Community Council Tues., 6/7/22, 6:30 pm City Hall, 3330 S 1300 E Join virtually HERE skating starting up next winter. Tomorrow marks the very first event in the Saturday DJ Skate Night Series which will occur every Saturday night from 7 to 10 pm. Tunes will be provided tomorrow by internationally known DJ Joune (who is also the in-house DJ for the Utah Jazz). Also tomorrow evening at 9 pm, Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini and city officials will cut a giant ribbon that has been unfurled by roller skaters, officially opening the Common. Normal Ice Cream will be serving up their unique treats from their vintage truck to make the night even sweeter. The Skate Loop will be open from 5 to 10 pm and every Saturday will bring a new DJ to play tunes from 7 to 10 pm. Admission to skate is $5.00. Skaters can bring their own skates, roller blades or rent a pair of quad skates on-site at the Adventure Hub for $5.00. Lots of parking is available via the adjacent streets of Chambers or Woodland Avenues. Don’t forget that the extremely popular Venture Out! series will be getting underway at 6 pm TONIGHT (6/3/22) at Canyon Rim Park (2900 E 3100 Bring the family to explore "The Backside of Water" and travel through a sea of performers, activities and interactive games and exhibits. Meet new friends, hang out with exotic animals and listen and dance to the sounds of Ammon & Liahona, whose original song “Listen To My Heart” (now called “I Don’t Wanna Be Alone") debuted on the tv show American Idol. Grab some dinner from one of the food trucks and at dusk spread your blanket on the lawn to watch Jungle Cruise (PG-13). Millcreek Common will be in full swing starting next week with free Playtivities-- bring the kids every weekday from 11 am to 2 pm for some free activities that will stimulate creativity and physical activity. Activities will include Move It Monday, Terrific Tuesdays, Water Wednesdays, Thrills for Thursday and Fun Day Friday, something for everyone! We can’t forget to mention Food Truck Thursdays, happening every Thursday through September from 5 to 8pm, and watch for The Springs Splash Pad to open in next few weeks. ---PAGE BREAK--- Whew, that was a lot!! Join us on Sunday, June 19th at Millcreek Common (1354 E Chambers Ave), where we'll skate to the sounds of DJ Bangarang, watch live performances (featured artists listed above), and support local businesses owned by people of color. ---PAGE BREAK--- Millcreek Arts Festival - Call for Entries The Millcreek Arts Council is soliciting applications for artists and musicians who would like to participate in the Millcreek Arts Festival. It is a one day event on Sat. August 27, 2022, 11-9pm, to be held on the grounds of the historic Baldwin Radio Factory (3474 S. 2300 which turns 100 years old this year. If you are interested, please apply on the Arts Council website, and go to the "Upcoming Events" tab before the deadline of June 30. More information about the fascinating history of the building constructed by Nathanial Baldwin, the inventor of headphones, visit the Baldwin Radio Factory website. HEADS UP, MILLCREEK — ROAD CONSTRUCTION ALERT Work will be starting on a road overlay project along Murray Holladay Rd between Van Winkle and Highland Drive on June 6th. This shared project between Millcreek and Holladay City will take approximately two weeks to complete (weather dependent), Be prepared for delays and lane closures. Use ---PAGE BREAK--- alternate routes if possible. Always remember to drive safely and slow down in construction zones - save yourself an expensive ticket! FREE, EASY VACCINATION CLINIC Cases are starting to climb again. Vaccinations and boosters are vital to curb the spread and severity of COVID-19. Millcreek will be hosting another clinic at City Hall (3330 S 1300 E) on Wednesday, June 16th from 11 am to 2 pm. No ---PAGE BREAK--- appointment is necessary and testing will also be available. Pfizer boosters are now available for children 5 to 11 years old. Everyone should get a booster (or two) based on their age and/or health status: People 50 and older: Get a booster at least 5 months after completing your COVID-19 vaccine primary series. Get a 2nd booster at least 4 months after your first booster. People 5 to 49 years: Most people: Get a booster at least 5 months after completing your COVID-19 vaccine primary series. People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised: Get a booster at least 3 months after completing your COVID-19 vaccine primary series. Get a 2nd booster at least 4 months after your 1st booster.
