He and his wife, Sherri, are raising their daughters here. As a kid, Sherri went to school at Eastwood Elementary and lived in the neighborhood just above it. John has a big BIG heart. Several years ago, he got involved with Free Bikes 4 Kidz Utah, a non- profit that wants to help every child experience "the joys and freedom of riding their first bike." With John's help, Free Bikes 4 Kidz Utah is partnering with Millcreek's Promise Program to help needy children in our community get that first bike. Tomorrow, October 5th, from 9 am to 4 pm, Free Bikes 4 Kidz Utah is holding its 4th annual bike collection event. Gently used kids' bikes, even tricycles, can be dropped off, where volunteers will clean them up. If enough bikes are collected, then as many as 450 Millcreek kids could be the happy recipients of your largesse. Free Bikes 4 Kidz is a national movement founded by Terry Esau, after he asked some friends to help him get wheels to a needy family, and "quickly found there's an unused or outgrown bike in just about every garage." USA Today, reporting on the Minneapolis chapter of Free Bikes 4 Kidz. "For many kids, that first bike is the first taste of freedom. For lower-income kids, where transportation may be an everyday issue, that bike can mean so much more." Id. So take a look in your garage tonight and tomorrow. HB411 Renewable Energy Update MILLCREEK. The Millcreek City Council continues to seek information about the HB411 process for transitioning to renewable electric power by 2030, and related ratemaking concepts. At its October 14th work meeting at 5 pm, the Council will hear again from Rocky Mountain Power, as well as Utah Clean Energy, and Sarah Inwood, a Millcreek resident with expertise in the electric power grid. The public is welcome to attend and listen at this work meeting, however, public comment will not be taken until the regular City Council meeting on October 28th at or after 7:00 pm at City Hall. At that time, a public meeting during the council’s regular meeting will permit Millcreek residents an opportunity to give comment. Emails and correspondence to the mayor and council members from Millcreek residents on this issue are invited and welcome before and after both meetings. Click here for their contact information. After receiving public comment, the City Council will make a decision about whether to opt into the HB411 program, likely at its meeting on November 12, 2019 at or after 7:00 pm.
