Outdoor Adventures MILLCREEK. More than 100 years ago, Alvin V. Taylor donated 1,100 acres of land in Millcreek Canyon to the Boy Scouts of the Salt Lake Council. A camp for the Scouts was established on a part of the land just 2.5 miles (a 12 minute drive) up the canyon. Originally known as "Camp Alvin V. Taylor," it was dubbed "Camp Tracy" when ---PAGE BREAK--- philanthropist Russel L. Tracy willed continuing financial support in 1945. Click HERE for more information. A first-class camp was established and utilized by the Scouts year-round for many decades (though during World War II, injured war veterans were rehabilitated there). Id. Road improvements and three-sided (later four-sided) cabins were built. A swimming pool came in 1939. Click HERE for more information. Two years ago, most of the land outside of the camp, i.e., 848 acres of the property, was sold and transferred to the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The transfer was accomplished to give the public permanent access to trail systems in Church Fork, Thaynes Canyon and Rattlesnake Gulch that had been informally established over the years. It also helped further an extension of the Bonneville Shoreline trail through Millcreek. Click HERE for more information. In addition to Scouting, Camp Tracy provides a venue for this year's two weekends of Millcreek's Camp Tracy Adventures. This weekend, 8/25 to 8/27,and next weekend, 9/1 to 9/4, Camp Tracy will be the place to be for fun and unique adventures for you and your family.
