Announcements Public Meetings No public meetings next week—let's all enjoy the time off! NEWS CITY LEADERS CALL ON CONGRESS MILLCREEK. Earlier this week, in conjunction with the National League of Cities Conference, Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini, District 4 Councilmember Bev Uipi, and City Manager Mike Winder called on Utah's entire U.S. Congressional delegation in Washington DC. “We have important infrastructure requests being made right now, like support for a Neff’s Canyon Debris Basin to reduce the size of the federal flood plain in ---PAGE BREAK--- Olympus Cove, and the possibility of a cross-valley bike path along 3900 South,” said Councilmember Uipi. "This was an excellent opportunity to make our case to our representatives in Congress for matching federal funding for these projects." Millcreek is the only city in the state with voters residing in all four of Utah’s Congressional districts. The city literally has more representation in Congress than 15 individual states, which means the Millcreek leaders were welcomed by Senator Mitt Romney, Senator Mike Lee’s senior staff, and Representatives John Curtis, Burgess Owens, Blake Moore, and Celeste Maloy. At the National League of Cities Conference, the delegation heard from President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and attended various workshops related to municipal issues. In one seminar on afterschool programs, Mayor Silvestrini was singled out by the national leaders for Millcreek’s outstanding work with afterschool programs through the Millcreek Promise Program. The Mayor was also invited to a White House briefing on that topic, meeting with high level leaders from the Department of Education. “Few Utah cities have the respect and influence in Washington like Millcreek,” said Winder, “and the relationships strengthened with both Democratic and Republican leaders in the capital will continue to serve our city well.” Be Careful When You Visit the Jordan River Utah Lake has reached compromise level, which is the maximum legal storage elevation established by a court-approved 1985 Compromise Agreement. As a result, there will be releases from Utah Lake to the Jordan River from March through approximately July. These releases will be adding an additional 800 to 1,500 cfs (cubic feet per second) of water into the Jordan River system. Residents will start to notice the Jordan River running higher. This increase in flow to the Jordan River will pose ground water issues in the surrounding areas along the river and will be flowing bank full in low-lying areas. Please recreate carefully in this area and to stay clear of fast ---PAGE BREAK--- moving water. Pay particularly close attention to your pets and children. The situation will be closely monitored by Salt Lake County Flood Control in collaboration with the Utah Lake Water Users Association and the Jordan River Commission. Fortuna Park Playground Replacement MILLCREEK. In 2023, community residents reported unsafe conditions of the playground equipment at Fortuna Park.
