After sitting empty for several years, the halls of the old Millcreek Elementary School at 3761 S 1100 E are once again filled with eager children ready to learn. The Utah International Charter School, formerly housed in South Salt Lake, has moved to this new building which provides them with a larger facility to accommodate around 250 students from all around the world. ---PAGE BREAK--- See agenda below The Mission of the Utah International Charter School is to: "Give English learners full access to a rigorous secondary curriculum by providing content-based, sheltered English instruction in every class, and to empower refugees, immigrants and American-born students with collaboration skills, critical- thinking skills, and diverse global perspectives." Millcreek is home to refugee families from Africa and immigrants from Latin America, Afghanistan, Ukraine, South Sudan, Burundi and many other countries. The children of these families face many obstacles adjusting to their new home and culture. The opportunity to master the English language at the school is an important part of that adjustment.
