The fall season brings cool evenings and beautifully colored leaves. It also means that the road construction season is over. We appreciate the patience of residents who spent time carefully dodging orange cones and barricades or could not use their driveways while concrete was curing this summer. Thank you for choosing Millcreek! Asphalt overlays took place in sections of the city with the objective of lengthening the life of roadways. All roads in Millcreek are assessed annually and funds are designated to be utilized in the areas of most need. Some roadways require complete rebuilds. These are very expensive and the City Council will be considering those costs as they work through the budget process each year. We always on the lookout for funding possibilities to help construct and maintain high quality roads. A little-known fact is that when a cut is made in a newly paved road, the life of the road is reduced by half. The City Council recently passed an ordinance to help protect newly improved roads, such as 9th East and 23rd East. Millcreek now requires anyone who makes a road cut, be it for utility work or new construction, to repair the roadway to specifications designed to maintain the integrity of the pavement. We go to great effort to make sure that our new roads are not torn up. To coordinate projects, our engineers meet twice each year with utility companies and others who may have the need to make road cuts. City operations teams must do paving work within the “asphalt season” when temperatures are just right to produce and install asphalt. As the season changes and temperatures drop, asphalt cannot be mixed, so asphalt plants shut down and roadway construction is brought to a halt. From here on out, until spring anyway, you'll see cold weather projects that don't require asphalt but the major ones are over. Thanks again to all our residents who were impacted during 2017. Look for the familiar trucks to be out on our roadways again next spring!! Subscribe Past Issues Translate ---PAGE BREAK--- 11/1/2018 Asphalt paving season is over 3/6 Calling all Millfreaks!
