Rake up the leaves from storm drains adjacent to or near your property. ANNOUNCEMENTS Public Meetings City Council Mon, 9/23/24 Work Session - 6:15pm Visit to UPD Offices Regular Meeting - 7pm City Hall, 2nd floor 1330 E Chambers Ave See Agenda Below 9/23/24, 5:44 PM Fall is clean-up time 1/20 ---PAGE BREAK--- NEWS Fall Means Clean-Up Time for All Residents, Not Just Neighborhood Gardeners MILLCREEK. It is hard to miss the changes—fall is definitely on the way along with its challenges, especially for Millcreek's backyard gardeners. Plots start being cleared and proper management of yard waste becomes crucial. Ideally, the best place to handle garden waste is is your own personal mulch pile. However, during fall cleanup, quantities are increased and become hard to manage in your yard. We are fortunate to have the Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District as a partner. A great way to dispose of abundant garden cleanup material is in a green waste collection can. The contents are composted at the landfill. This high-quality compost is then available for public purchase, supporting eco-friendly disposal and benefitting the community. For additional information on green waste collection, click HERE. It is extremely important to keep storm drains clear during as fall and winter storms move in. Leaves collect in storm drains and can clog them enough to not allow them to function properly, which often causes flooding into the streets and occasionally into front yards or basements. The city sweeps streets three times a year but it is impossible for our workers to find and clear all problematic storm drains. We rely on residents to help out. Please take a shovel and clear any drains in your area that you can. If there is 9/23/24, 5:44 PM Fall is clean-up time 2/20 ---PAGE BREAK--- a major problem that you cannot solve, please let us know by posting the location and problem on the Report a Concern section of the city website. LEAF PICKUP AVAILABLE ON OCT 15th. Fall cleanup doesn't just apply just to backyard gardeners or even just to gardens. Most of us have to deal with falling leaves from our own or from neighbors' yards, and again our partners have stepped in. Starting October 16th, residents can pick up leaf bags at on the second floor of city hall, 1330 E. Chambers Ave., to help clear our neighborhoods of this material. Full leaf bags can be taken to area parks and placed in the trailers. Other yard or waste bags can be used for your leaves. Please do not dump garbage, yard waste, or other items at the leaf bag collection sites. You are welcome to take leaf bags from any site for your own compost. Note - Bags full of leaves should not be placed in your blue container. Residents should also begin thinking about winterizing their homes. Sprinklers should already be set to water only twice a week and it won't be long before they should be blown out and shut down. New furnace filters should be installed, especially since they tend to get dirtier when the wildfire smoke blows in. Air conditioners should be winterized. There are all sorts of things you can do to keep your home comfortable and safe when the winter winds blow. 9/23/24, 5:44 PM Fall is clean-up time 3/20 ---PAGE BREAK--- Millcreek Common Phase II Open House Very Successful MILLCREEK. Give yourself time to take the steps to prepare. By taking simple steps over time, you can build your preparedness at your own pace. You may think that preparedness is expensive and time consuming, but it doesn't have to be. Taking just one step will make a difference when a disaster happens. Start a conversation with friends and neighbors about their emergency plans and what has worked for them. Your friends and neighbors can help each other be ready no matter what happens. Share and talk about what's worked for you and your family on your preparedness journey. Ask friends and neighbors if they need help with their preparedness plans.
