This week, Millcreek kids went back to school. Even though there is an increase in virtual learning, there are still plenty of kids going to school in-person. Now is an important time to remember that with the start of school, we all need to be extra cautious when driving in a school zone. There is no warning for speeding in school zones, it’s an automatic ticket. There may not be as many kids out and about, but we must be just as vigilant when driving in a school zone. Watch out for kids and for crossing guards. Finally, don't forget that when a school bus turns on it’s red flashing lights and the stop arms are extended, drivers must stop and ---PAGE BREAK--- cannot proceed until the flashing has stopped at the stop arms are withdrawn. Celebrating the Constitution MILLCREEK. Susan Ferrin and Elaine Janeway of the Daughters of the American Revolution joined the Millcreek City Council on Monday and proclaimed September 13th-19th as Constitution Week in Millcreek. This year on September 17th marks the 233rd birthday of our nation's Constitution! The official Proclamation of Constitution Week in Millcreek can be viewed here. An Update on Millcreek's Roads MILLCREEK. It comes as no surprise that Millcreek's roads are not in the best shape. Millcreek's Public Works department has been hard at work fixing the myriad of problems that have plagued our streets since before incorporation. While it's impossible to repair everything at once, or in the time frame we want it, significant progress has been made. ---PAGE BREAK--- Our Public Works department reports that we have facilitated and completed 171 road hazards ranging from sink holes, cave-in’s, and storm drain repairs in the past year or so. Those are great numbers, and demonstrates some awesome work done by the Millcreek Public Works department. Remember, we can only fix these problems if we're aware of them. To report a road hazard in Millcreek, you can submit an online Report a Concern form, or call us at [PHONE REDACTED]. For a list of current, upcoming, and completed projects, visit our Capital Improvement Projects Map. The 3900 South Improvements project team is scheduled to select a contractor this fall. Depending on weather conditions, winter construction is possible but would be minimal. Full roadway reconstruction is scheduled to begin in early 2021. In preparation for the road reconstruction, the gas and water lines that run under 3900 South are receiving much-needed upgrades. Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities is working on the water system between 3180 East and Wasatch Boulevard between now and mid-October. Dominion Energy is currently working on the natural gas line between 2300 East and Wasatch Boulevard and is scheduled to wrap up in mid-November. Residents are encouraged to plan for delays on 3900 South and use alternate routes to avoid utility work. ---PAGE BREAK--- Visit Millcreek’s website for more information or contact the project team at (801) 509-6639 or [EMAIL REDACTED]. Deadline for Salt Lake County Property Tax Relief Quickly Approaching Deadline: September 1, 2020 ---PAGE BREAK--- SALT LAKE COUNTY. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the Treasurer's Office has been limited in its efforts to promote the tax relief programs available to the residents of the County. Staff usually visits senior centers and participates in senior expos and conventions to get the word out. Countywide Council Member Shireen Ghorbani and Treasurer K. Wayne Cushing want to emphasize this worthy cause. Tax relief is available to certain military veterans, the legally blind in both eyes, those 66 years old and older with annual household income under $34,168 (known as the Circuit Breaker Program), and those of any age experiencing hardship or who are indigent. If anyone is in this situation, please contact the Treasurer’s Office at [PHONE REDACTED]. “We know our residents are experiencing both financial and emotional stress on a scale we haven’t seen in a long time”, said Ghorbani. “And we want them to know that the county is here for them. Because the nature of the information required to process tax-relief applications is highly sensitive, residents may be required to visit the Government Center and meet in-person with staff in the Treasurer’s Office. We want to reassure taxpayers that precautions at the Government Center have been put in place to provide a safe location for those who have to visit.” The deadline to apply for tax relief is September 1. To streamline the process, beginning on August 24 the Treasurer’s Office, including the nearby North Building Atrium, will be set up to serve residents safely during the on-going pandemic. This includes mandatory mask-wearing, hand sanitizer, and social distancing. Along with the new layout, Treasurer Cushing states, “We will continue to take specific appointments but will be opening up for walk-ins. We will have employees available to answer questions and screen individual circumstances. We want all who qualify for property tax relief to get that relief.” ---PAGE BREAK--- Millcreek Way Water Main Replacement Project What: The existing 6" cast iron water pipe will be replaced with 8" ductile iron water pipe.
