As the threat of spring flooding looms, take some time to look over your property and determine if you should have some sandbags on hand. So much depends upon the weather over the next few weeks that it is extremely difficult to predict what will happen. A sudden warm spell or rapid warming combined with a ---PAGE BREAK--- spring thunderstorm might cause problems. If you have had problems in the past, having some sandbags at the ready is most likely a good idea. In addition to the salt pile location at 3800 S Wasatch Blvd., sandbags and sand to fill them are now available at the following church meetinghouse locations: - 4176 S Adonis Drive - 4407 S Fortuna Way - 3570 S 2000 E - 2125 E Evergreen Ave Please bring your own shovel and have at least two people present to fill sandbags. We ask that residents take no more than 25 sandbags due to limited supply. You can find information about how to fill sandbags and then stack them in the Flood Preparedness Manual on the Salt Lake County Flood Control website. Please remember, do not place sandbags on top of snowbanks or along roadways. Residents should place bags only on private property and are responsible for cleaning up and disposing of bags. Crews are out inspecting and clearing culverts throughout the city. If you notice an area that should be looked at, please let us know. You can put information on the Report a Concern button on the city website or contact Rita Lund, [EMAIL REDACTED]. We appreciate our residents who help let us know about concerns in their neighborhood. An additional huge thank you to the congregations of these four church meetinghouses who have allowed us to use their parking lots— their cooperation is extremely valuable. ---PAGE BREAK--- The city will be holding a volunteer sandbagging event at the salt pile location at 3900 S Wasatch Blvd. on Saturday, April 1st and Saturday, April 8th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until resources run out). We would like to track all volunteer hours, so have created a volunteer event for you to reserve a time to fill bags for yourself and your neighbors. Please visit our event HERE to reserve your timeslot. Please bring your own shovels, work gloves, and eye protection. Bottled water will be provided. Parking will be limited so please carpool if you can. Additional parking will be available along Virginia Way. ---PAGE BREAK--- If you have any questions, please contact: Millcreek Emergency Manager Andrew Cark, [PHONE REDACTED], [EMAIL REDACTED].
