This map shows the current District 3 boundaries. Millcreek City Council District 3. The candidates in the Millcreek City Council District 3 race are David F. Holz, Scott Springer, and Cheri Jackson. Here are statements from each of them: David F. Holz - My concerns include: Areas that differentiate municipal platforms; they include private property, residential vs commercial properties through their governance and ownership. Tax benefits as they relate to residential and commercial properties. Redevelopment Agency Assessments, the opposite of economic development is economic displacement. Some new planning processes don’t always equal progress in a beneficial way. Changes in neighborhoods displace families in the name of progress. Core values are: Small Business retention / development. Fair taxation for home owners, support for neighborhood stability and not for specific developments. [PHONE REDACTED] I [EMAIL REDACTED] ---PAGE BREAK--- Scott Springer - As a native Millcreek resident, I have seen the growth that the area has undergone over that last decades. Most of this growth has been great for the community in welcoming new residents and businesses. However, there have been some problems with the sustainability of this growth and the capacity of our infrastructure to handle it. As your representative I plan on focusing on improving our infrastructure to make it more efficient and resilient as well as making local government accountable to reduce taxes and overall living expenses. I believe that a representative should listen to their constituents and implement what the majority wishes, as your representative I will do just that. [PHONE REDACTED] I [EMAIL REDACTED] Cheri Jackson Hello, my name is Cheri Jackson. I currently serve on the City Council representing District 3 and am seeking re-election. For the past two years, I have been serving as the City Treasurer. My focus has been on maintaining a fiscally responsible budget through careful planning and accountability. I am a wife, a mother, and a grandmother. I pay taxes, buy groceries, pay utility bills, and drive on the same roads that you do. I have been working for the past seven years to establish Millcreek as the best city in Utah, and I hope to continue to do that! [PHONE REDACTED] I [EMAIL REDACTED] I cherijackson.org Mt. Olympus Improvement District At-Large Trustee. Candidates for the Mt. Olympus Improvement District At-Large Trustee position are Michele Rivera and James Carter. Here are statements from each of them: Michele Rivera: My name is Michele Rivera and I have lived in the Millcreek/Holladay area for more than 10 years. I am a first-generation Latin- American, born of immigrant parents. I was the first in my family to graduate from college at Brigham Young University, where I received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Humanities and Minor in Portuguese. After graduating, I planted my roots in Millcreek, where I purchased my home. I am tirelessly working towards better government with my community and political engagements. I have helped with local issues, including the 2020 Tax Referendum, where I gathered over 16 packets worth of signatures to stop the increase of sales tax on groceries. I have helped members of both major political groups run for office, because I believe in moving forward. I believe the work the government does should be financially transparent to the public. That is why I want to use my skills as a ---PAGE BREAK--- Data Engineer and Analyst to make the Mount Olympus Improvement District more accessible to the community. I have more than 10 years of experience in revenue, accounting, and cash collections analytics. I believe this makes me a strong candidate to serve this District. James Carter: I grew up and still live in Holladay, Utah. I'm running for the Mt. Olympus Improvement District Board of Trustees to continue my engagement in my community and bring over 45 years of professional experience to the Mt. Olympus Board. I practiced water, public lands, and mineral law in private law firms early in my career, and served as city attorney for Park City. I later served as the Director of the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining. For the past 25 years I have worked for consulting firms to prepare BLM, Forest Service and Bureau of Reclamation resource management plans; environmental studies for large transmission line and pipeline projects; land use plans for cities and counties; and land management ordinances. I am currently working part-time for a multi-state environmental and community planning firm, where my main roles include public engagement; workshop facilitation; and ordinance development. Ballots must be dropped in ---PAGE BREAK--- the box or postmarked by election day, November 21st. Ranked Choice Voting. The City Council determined that this election would be held utilizing Ranked Choice Voting. Ranked choice voting (also known as instant runoff voting) is a nonpartisan electoral reform that allows voters to rank candidates in order of choice. Instead of choosing one candidate, ranked choice voting allows voters to rank candidates according to their preference (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.). Voters may also choose to not rank some candidates, as a ranking counts as a "yes" vote. If one candidate does not receive an absolute majority (over 50%) vote in the first round, then the runoff begins. When a voter's number one choice is eliminated, their second choice is included in the count for the second round. In each round of ranked choice voting, the candidate with the lowest number of votes is eliminated. This process continues until one candidate receives an absolute majority vote. You can learn more about Ranked Choice Voting on the city website HERE. Other Info.
