BUSINESS LICENSES Millcreek business MILLCREEK. It’s 5 AM. Ten minutes ago, you were shaken out of bed by that 7.5 earthquake we’ve all been warned about. The kids are freaking out and your spouse’s wrist looks broken. You try 911 but the phones don’t work because the networks are overloaded. You're starting to panic. What’s this? A teenager from down the street is in your kitchen extinguishing a small fire you hadn’t noticed. Another is offering to bind your spouse’s wrist and asks you to find a blanket. The fire out, the first teen is now gathering the kids together and calming them down. You start to feel a little less panicked. The house is uninhabitable. The teen helps you find your 96-hour kits and directs you to the nearby elementary school. Someone helps you settle in and locate your parents. You find out that the UFA's emergency teams are swamped and will be at the school tomorrow. Who are these people who have been helping you? They are a part of Millcreek’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). As volunteers, they have been trained to step into the chaos of a disaster and provide assistance until the professional responders can arrive. To find out more, visit cert-in-millcreek/. There, you can also learn about Teen CERT, which specializes in training teenagers, and about CART (Community Animal Response Team), which helps take care of pets during disasters.
