Mitt Romney On Wednesday, the Millcreek Business Council hosted a networking luncheon with United States Senator Mitt Romney. Held at Millcreek’s second largest employer, Golden Customer Care, Senator Romney spoke and answered questions for a sold-out crowd of 250 business and civic leaders. The event was Millcreek’s turn to host the Wasatch Business Series—a consortium that also includes chambers of commerce from Holladay, Murray, South Salt Lake, and ---PAGE BREAK--- 8/26/2019 Wasatch Business Series Hosts Senator Mitt Romney in Millcreek 2/12 See agenda below Click here for our Calendar of Events Sugarhouse; as well as the Utah Independent Business Coalition and the Utah Chamber of Commerce. “It was an honor to introduce Senator Romney and visit with him about our great city,” said Mayor Jeff Silvestrini. “The successful event is a testament to our incredible Millcreek Business Council,” he said. While most cities in the valley spend $20,000 to $90,000 per year to subsidize a chamber of commerce, Millcreek is seeing success innovating with a more efficient model. Any licensed business in Millcreek is automatically a member of the Millcreek Business Council at no cost, and all events are self-supporting without city subsidies. Committees, filled with volunteers from the business community, support fellow Millcreek businesses in networking, emergency preparedness, employee recruitment, business promotion, and more. There are also opportunities to connect businesses to the Millcreek Promise Program and area service projects. “Our business council continues to put on great events and programs like this,” said Councilwoman Cheri Jackson, who joined fellow Councilmembers Silvia Catten and Bev Uipi in welcoming Senator Romney at the business event. “I’ve enjoyed volunteering on several of their committees and it has been remarkable to see what our city and business community have accomplished together in just eight months.” The Millcreek Business Council is proving to be yet another way that Millcreek is spending less to do more. Business retention is increasing, and a more collaborative community is the result. “It is great to be here today, speaking in Millcreek,” said Senator Romney. “This community has come so far in its short time as a city, and it is really impressive.” ---PAGE BREAK--- 8/26/2019 Wasatch Business Series Hosts Senator Mitt Romney in Millcreek 3/12 HB411 Community Renewable Energy Act Many residents of Millcreek are interested in learning about HB411, the Community Renewable Energy Act that became law in April 2019.
