Last fall, Millcreek established its own planning and zoning department. In this ongoing effort to save taxpayer funds, Millcreek has now brought code compliance and business licensing services inhouse. CODE COMPLIANCE. Starting this week, we will begin seeing Code Compliance Officers Tracy Ford and Audrey Cullimore out in Millcreek neighborhoods in white pick-up trucks, checking for and responding to complaints about violation of City ordinances. They will work to help residents and businesses resolve such issues as removing tall weeds and junk vehicles, repairing unkempt buildings, and preventing graffiti. They will assess and work with owners to cure zoning violations. They will review the nature of and help owners to abate environmental or health hazards. In essence, their job is to help keep our neighborhoods safer, clean and livable, and to protect against hazardous and deteriorating conditions. Millcreek resident George Wilkerson maintains a realtime weather website from his Olympus Cove home. Updated every minute, George's site reports data he collects with his Olympus Cove-based instruments, and also from the National Weather Service. Four webcams provide spectacular westerly views of weather in Millcreek and the Salt Lake Valley. Several news stations use footage from his webcams for their on-air broadcasts. George has been passionate about meteorology his whole life. He graduated from the U of U many years ago and has spent his whole career in atmospheric sciences. He and his wife, Christine, have established an endowment at the U for the upcoming generation of climate and weather scientists. George started collecting the data for his personal use, and then set up the website because he likes to share and get other people engaged in what makes him happy. Kyle Taft, who also lives in Olympus Cove, says that he uses the website regularly. "It is especially helpful early in the morning when I am deciding what to wear for my pre-dawn bike ride. Thanks for this valuable service." Source: Nextdoor.com. Thank you, George and Christine!
