All of the social protesting happening across the country has not fallen on deaf ears in Millcreek. The Mayor and City Council believe it is an appropriate time to make an assessment of policing in our community. To further that goal, we want to start by hearing from you your questions, thoughts, comments, and feelings about the UPD, and your experiences with them. Venture AT Home - Every Friday In August! - Virtual Outdoor Exploration: Ruckas Garden & Animal Parties with Melon Monologues, Wild Wonders and their Special Guests! Bring your portable chairs or a blanket and enjoy some stellar live music from the expansive green grass of Canyon Rim Park. On August 22nd from 3pm- 8pm on Saturday, The Millcreek Arts Council presents a socially responsible music festival at 2900 S & 2900 E. The park will play host to two stages of music featuring bands such as The Fabulous Memphis McCool, Rifamos & SYNKOFA as well as food trucks. In taking all precautions against the spread of COVID-19, the festival will include hand-sanitizing stations, extra masks to hand out, and pre- registration. All participants are asked to pre-register before attending the event, and socially distance by family unit and wear masks at all times during the event. Together we can stop the spread of COVID19! On July 31st, Millcreek Promise hosted its first ever, socially distanced, Millcreek Promise leadership Committee Breakfast. The Tracy Aviary was kind enough to host the breakfast at its new Jordan River Nature Center in South Salt Lake. Millcreek Promise unveiled the Promise Internet Essentials Project. This initiative works with Promise Partners, like Utah Women of Color Council and Canyon Rim is Community, to get internet service into 200 Millcreek households. Also, announcement was made that COMCAST is delivering 30 DELL laptops to Millcreek Promise as part of its Digital Donation Program. Attending the breakfast were 20 of the best and brightest from United Way Salt Lake, University of Utah, Utah Black Chamber of Commerce, Unified Police Department- Millcreek Precinct, Children’s Service Society of Utah, Wasatch Mountain Institute, Casa Quetzalcoatl, Mill Creek Elementary PTA, Utah Office of Multicultural Affairs, Utah Society for Environmental Education and educators from the Wonderment Bus. ---PAGE BREAK--- UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION WORK THAT WILL AFFECT MILLCREEK RESIDENTS Online Public Hearing Notice for I-80 Improvements UDOT invites you to participate in an online public hearing on Wednesday, August 19, 5:30-7:30 pm to review and provide input on recommended improvements to I-80 between 1300 East and 2300 East and to I-215 between 3300 South and 4500 South in Salt Lake County. Where this line runs through Millcreek, it will be entirely within Millcreek's right-of-way where SLCPU, as the provider of water to most of Millcreek, has the right to work to improve water infrastructure. Phase III, the portion of the project that runs through Millcreek, is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2022. Phase I, which is not in Millcreek, begins this summer. When Should You License: Within 30 days of moving to a new city or as soon as your pet is over 5 months of age. Why Your Pet Should Be Licensed: A license is the best way to reunite you with your pet if they become lost. By keeping your pet information up to date, it makes it easier for staff to identify your pet if they come into the shelter lost. If they go missing, you can send in a recent photo of your pet for us to attach to their license. This way if they do come into the shelter as a stray, we can identify them faster and call you. For decades, at speeds of sometimes more than 70 mph, drivers (lots of teenagers) sped down Jupiter Drive, hit the intersection at Brockbank, and flew through the air before landing, sometimes in neighbors' yards, and once smack up against a construction dumpster. David Baird, chair of the Mt. Olympus Community Council, has worked for years for a solution that would bring an end to the dangerous activity.
