12/28/2023 - WHY IS THERE STILL A POTHOLE ON MY STREET?; ENJOY MILLCREEK COMMON ON NEW YEARS; etc. View this email in your browser Announcements City Hall closed tomorrow and Monday. Public Meetings Canyon Rim Citizens Association Wed., 1/3/24, 7pm Granite Credit Union Adventure Hub 1354 E Chambers Ave NEWS It's Cold Out—People Bundle Up, Potholes Appear, and Water Mains Break MILLCREEK. There was a pretty long cold spell over the holidays. The next few days will be warmer but there are more frigid days to come. Not only does the cold get people breaking out their warm winter coats and gloves, it causes problems many other ways. Residents should be sure their homes and vehicles are capable of withstanding prolonged ---PAGE BREAK--- East Mill Creek Community Council Thurs., 1/4/24, 6:30pm Granite Credit Union Adventure Hub 1354 E Chambers Ave (Holiday schedules have pushed Millcreek Community Council's meeting to 1/6/24) freezing temperatures. We hope that by now all outside hose bibs have been turned off and covered. Furnace filters should be changed frequently (especially when the inversion settles in) to keep things running smoothly. If taking a long car trip, be sure to take a warm coat, boots, blanket, flashlight and emergency supplies along for the ride. Our engineering team wishes it was easy to prepare for the inevitable winter-time problems that show up along Millcreek roads. With cold weather, the asphalt plants must close down. That means that right at the time when potholes seem to magically appear, we are not able to obtain the hot mix that works best for repairs. Therefore, crews try to keep them filled with "cold patch". The problem is that "cold patch" does not adhere well and a patch can easily be popped out when a snowplow goes by. If you see a pothole that should be looked at, please go to the city website, click on Report a Concern, and let us know about it. We will get to it as soon as possible. Cold winter weather also ushers in the season of water main breaks. Our friends at Salt Lake City Public Utilities (SLCPU) encounter the same problem with "cold patch". You may see a water main break repaired with no more water leaking but the dirt filled hole and flasher barricades may remain for some time while crews work their way through required repairs. If you see a water main break, please notify on their website, by phone at [PHONE REDACTED], or by email at [EMAIL REDACTED]. For water main emergencies, call the 24- hour dispatch line at [PHONE REDACTED]. Please have patience and know that our crews are working hard to keep up with the potholes and waterline breaks that old man winter brings us. ---PAGE BREAK--- BIG BOOM BASH EARLY EVE New Years Eve fun for the whole family 12/31 from 6-8 PM. A reception will be held at the library from 6-6:45 PM on January 5th. Please join us for light refreshments and musical accompaniment by Holly Faith. Growing up in the Millcreek area, Ethan started painting with spray paint early in high school. He has honed his skill as a spray paint artist ever since. Pursuing the arts in higher education, Ethan got a degree in art ed at Southern Utah University. He currently works as a freelance artist and educator. He composes anything from large scale murals to fine art. Ethan’s paintings are created by multi-layer hand-cut stencils. First, he creates an image on a computer program. Then he prints that image onto large sheets of paper and cut the images out with an Exacto knife. Most of his paintings are 9 layers of stencils. Once everything is cut out, he spray paints each layer on top of each other creating these images. As an artist Ethan likes to combine opposing ideas, one theme that he revisits often is the duality of nature and industry. Some of his art is meant to be thought provoking while some is just meant to catch the eye with little to no meaning behind it. Lately his art has been influenced by a dark surrealism theme which he has been experimenting with. To see his entire portfolio follow him on instagram at @kid.nothing. Singer/songwriter Holly Faith is 27 years old and loves music! She has been playing instruments such as guitar and cello and singing since she was a child. Always looking for new places and people to share her music with, her passion and enthusiasm for her art form are undeniable in her live performances. Her heart is into writing original songs, though she knows how to mix it up with a tasteful cover tune. ---PAGE BREAK--- MILLCREEK.
