Neighborhood kids watched dignitaries open brand new futsal courts, and started playing even before the celebration ended. Funds raised by Millcreek's Promise Program from the County's Community Development and the Real Salt Lake Foundation funded more than half of the cost the new courts, which are located in the heart of Millcreek's refugee community Volunteers from Utah Royals FC came to the park on Juneteenth to "put a Royal touch" onto the opening, by painting, clearing weeds, and "giving back" to people from all walks of life that the Royals exclaim "really love soccer!" Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson and Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen joined our own Mayor Jeff Silvestrini, as well as Cleo and Leo (Royals and Real mascots), staffers from the City, County, and RSL Foundation, and many of the community's neighbors, for the grand opening ceremony. The futsal courts are the result of months of design work with IO Landarch, weeks of engagement with neighborhood residents, heavy lifting from Millcreek staff, and amazing contributions from the RSL Foundation and the Salt Lake County Community Development Department. Pick up your favorite or try something new and head to the nearest park to enjoy! ---PAGE BREAK--- The Front Climbing Gym Opens New Facility in Millcreek MILLCREEK. Our city now boasts the highest climbing gym in the State of Utah. The Front Climbing Club's newest and third location at 4140 South Main is a ground-up climbing gym designed by Hannah Vaughn's VY Architecture and in-house designers at Vertical Solutions. The 45,000 sq ft facility contains 9,000 sq ft of bouldering and 18,000 sq ft of rope climbing, with 27,000 sq ft of climbing in total and walls reaching up to 60 ft in height. The building also hosts an IFSC regulation 15-meter speed wall; dedicated weights and cardio space; yoga, group fitness and jiu jitsu studios; climbing- specific training board space; co-working spaces and a retail shop with climbing gear as well as snacks. ---PAGE BREAK--- Good Dog Campaign! Wi ---PAGE BREAK--- Win Treats for Your Pup Are you walking your dog more while you work from home? If so, you may have seen an alarming trend in your neighborhood or on the trails, more dogs are being walked off-leash and more dog poop is being left on the trails. Be part of our GOOD DOG Campaign! Salt Lake County Animal Services is launching this new public awareness program to help build a better community of dog owners who keep their dogs on leash and pick up their poop. We will be putting up signs at various parks across the valley and letting the public know where they are on our Facebook and Instagram pages. What You Can Do to Help: 1. Find the sign at the park. 2. Take a photo of your pup by the sign and tag us on Facebook or Instagram: @Salt Lake County Animal Services. 3. Be sure to use the Hash Tag: #SLCOGoodDog 4. Can’t find the sign, but your pup is such a good dog and on-leash? Still tag us like mentioned above! (We can’t say no to GOOD DOGs on-leash!) Once you post this, we will enter your name in to win a HUGE basket full of treats for your GOOD DOG! We will pull the name of the winner after Labor Day and announce it on social media. Call Dispatch at [PHONE REDACTED] or email [EMAIL REDACTED]. ---PAGE BREAK--- Volunteer Position Millcreek Precinct Volunteer Victim Advocate The Unified Police Department, Millcreek Precinct, is currently seeking qualified individuals for our Volunteer Victim Advocate program. Millcreek Precinct Volunteer Victim Advocates will work alongside our full time Victim Advocate, Community Leaders, and Police Officers. Volunteer Victim Advocates will assist victims of crime through community resources and support victims through the criminal justice process. The Victim Advocate program assists victims and their family members of crime relating to domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse, sexual assault, robbery, stalking/harassment, assault, homicide, suicide, and other traumatic loss. This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills. The work schedule will primarily be callouts between 6pm-3am and will be on a set rotation. Some of the Victim Advocate program services include: Referrals to community resources Information about the criminal justice system Provide financial assistance Accompaniment and support in court hearings Prevention work, including public presentations Applicant qualifications: Positive attitude Above average computer skills Ability to prioritize Valid drivers license Must pass a background check Must be at least 21 years of age This is a non-compensated position with no paid benefits. Selected volunteers will report to Millcreek Street Crimes Sergeant Mike Mays and will adhere to UPD policy and procedure. Interested applicants must send a resume and letter of interest to Sgt.
