When dog waste is left on the ground, it breaks down and eventually washes into storm drains. Since storm drains and sewers discharge directly into streams, canals, rivers, and lakes without undergoing any treatment, bacteria from pet waste enters our shared waterways, impairing water quality, and making it unsafe for aquatic life and human health. In the U.S., dogs produce 10 million tons of waste each year, and just one gram contains as many as 23 million fecal coliform bacteria. Other bacteria and parasites in dog waste, such as E.coli, Salmonella, and giardia, can spread disease and impair water quality. On walks, always carry a baggie to scoop the poop and dispose of it in the trash. At home, clean up dog waste in your yard as frequently as possible and dispose of it in the trash. ---PAGE BREAK--- DONATIONS NEEDED!
