We have been limping along on a $100,000 grant the County provided last winter, with only one "half-time" employee and a lot of returned voice- mails. Our funds have only started flowing to us in the last two weeks, with the full sales tax revenue stream set to begin in September. However, with the MSD issue settled and this revenue stream having begun, we now have the ability to crank up operations. Contracts are being negotiated directly with the County for most services. Planning and zoning, as well as economic development, will be brought in-house over the next few months as we move into our new space and begin hiring a staff of full- time employees. Our goal is to provide top-notch and rapid "customer" service. Volunteers on the Planning Commission and the Envision Committee, and a couple of very generous consultants, have been helping us gear up to obtain your input to create a new vision for our city. Look for us at Venture Out! and other events this summer. Make your voice heard by answering the three questions on this short survey. This is your City. Your opinions are crucial to its future. What do you like about Millcreek as it is today, and what do you think could be improved? Please join us in this very exciting new beginning! BUSINESS LICENSES Here is the list of Millcreek business licenses issued between May 22 and 26. Please patronize our local businesses! UPDATE ON ZONING CHANGES Our new City Planning Commission has been working with the City Council to update decades- old zoning ordinances. We are currently working on commercial and manufacturing zones, and looking into whether a Form Based Code would be appropriate in the Meadowbrook area of our community. The planners in our community will be working hard this coming week. An open house will be held on Tuesday, 3-5 PM, in the south building of the County Complex (2001 S. State) to discuss changes to the manufacturing zones. The Envision Committee is meeting on Thursday at 6 PM at the City offices (3932 S. 500 E) to discuss manufacturing zones and form-based codes (come learn about form-based codes). And the Planning Commission is having a special meeting Friday morning at 8 AM in Room N3-600 at the County Complex, to discuss the manufacturing and commercial zone rewrites. The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) recently formally approved a $75,000 grant to help us update our general plan. Together with a $20,000 match from the Salt Lake County RDA, Millcreek has $95,000 in new grant money for this project. WFRC also helped us prepare a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a consultant to help us get started. The RFP is scheduled to go out on Monday, and a consultant should be selected by the end of June. On Monday, June 12th, at its regular meeting, the City Council will consider repealing and replacing the Foothills and Canyons Overlay Zone. Among other things, the proposed new ordinance will simplify development and design standards, reconcile conflicts with wildfire suppression standards, and bring the zone into compliance with state-imposed legal requirements. The nuts and bolts of slope protection for Millcreek's foothills will remain in place. Whew lots going on! Your input is welcome, and appreciated!
