Olympus Community Council NEWS Lots of Things to Look Forward to in 2025 MILLCREEK. Now that we have said a fond farewell to 2024, it is time to look forward to an exciting 2025. Mark your calendar to come to City Hall on ---PAGE BREAK--- Mon., 1/6/25, 6pm Churchill Jr. High 3450 E Oakview Millcreek Community Council Tues., 1/7/25, 6:30p, Granite Credit Union Adventure Hub 1354 E Chambers Ave Agenda Canyon Rim Citizens Association Thurs., 1/8/25, 7pm Granite Credit Union Adventure Hub 1354 E Chambers Ave February 24th to hear Mayor Silvestrini's State of the City Address and to honor the 2025 Community Champions. Picked by each councilmember from the many volunteers and outstanding community members in their respective district, these five Community Champions will be receiving well deserved recognition. Millcreek is home to many amazing and talented young people. Watch for the presentation of $1,000 scholarships to eight worthy high school students and a Star of Excellence Award for another fifty high school juniors who have achieved GPA's of over 3.8. A class of ESL (English as a Second Language) students will be recognized for their efforts. Springtime will bring a May groundbreaking for Millcreek Common Phase 2. Located north of city hall, Phase 2 will offer a variety of fun recreation opportunities to add to the current, extremely popular Phase 1 activities that include the Splash Pad, Climbing Wall, and of course, the Skate Loop. To this list of opportunities for residents and visitors alike, Phase 2 will provide a Splash Creek, a Skate Canyon, 18-hole Milo's Mini Golf course, a creative Milo the Moose play structure, a Tree House where visitors can watch the fun, a Grassy Meadow where everyone can relax, and an outdoor amphitheater. Take a look at the plans on the city website. Millcreek is in the process of adding a section of the Jordan River Parkway to our side of the Jordan River. A trail, trailhead, and bridge crossing are in the works with plans to cut a ribbon for this great addition also in the spring. All of this is on top of the many events the Millcreek Community Life team are planning for Millcreek Common to provide Millcreekers a vibrant and exciting City Center. Keep an eye on this newsletter for all of the many goings on at City Hall and Millcreek Common and be sure to join us in 2025! ---PAGE BREAK--- On Sunday, December 29, Millcreek lost a beloved Zamboni Driver from complications due to an automobile crash in early December. Jed Jensen was our Zamboni-Santa, community connector, classic car enthusiast, and fun- loving friend. To remember our friend at Millcreek Common, black bands have been placed on the Zamboni in honor of Jed. His obituary can be found here. EVENTS ---PAGE BREAK--- Electric Alley Arcade Now Open Back by popular demand, Millcreek Common invites the community to the Electric Alley Arcade starting January 1, 2025. Enjoy this two-week popup that features classic games like pinball, bubble hockey, Skee-Ball and more. Jersey Mike's Subs Opens in Millcreek MILLCREEK. Mayor Silvestrini joined Jersey Mike's manager, Jonah Herbst, Millcreek City Manager Mike Winder, and, of course, Milo the Moose, to cut the ribbon for the new Jersey Mike's location at 1295 Miller Avenue. We welcome this new Millcreek location for one of our favorite eateries (and so close to City Hall)!! Featuring local, Utah-based fine artists who work in a variety of mediums including painting, photography, and more. Explore emerging artisans and new works from renowned professionals as the community gathers to celebrate visual art. An artists reception will be held on 1.24 from 6:00-8:00 PM Meet participating artists and browse their work produced in a variety of mediums. Light hors d'oeuvres and an activity to reflect on the beauty of the northern lights. All writers are welcome to participate in this casual, inclusive meeting. ---PAGE BREAK--- CONSTRUCTION UPDATE SLC Public Utilities East-West Connection Waterline Project (Approximately 3500 East along Metro Way to Grace Street at 3075 East) MILLCREEK. The East-West Waterline Project being constructed by the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities will be closing Margie Avenue, between Metro Way and Grace Street, starting as early as Monday, January 6. Between Margie Avenue and Metropolitan Way, Grace Street will also be closed. These road closures are to accommodate for the waterline work. All travelers in the area will be detoured on Metropolitan Way and Valley Street. Crews anticipate to reopen mid-February 2025.
