MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Churchill Jr. High School June 7, 2016 - 7:00 PM Pledge of Allegiance Introduction of Council Members In Attendance: Jeff Silvestrini, Joan Haven, David Baird, Chuck Pruitt, Kumar Shah, Pasu Pasupathi, John Knoblock (minutes), and Joy Goddard Excused: Jemina Keller, Ken Smith Minutes: Minutes from the May 17, 2016 meeting were approved. Reports: UFA- Rob Ayers, Wild Land Fire Specialist Although Rob works in Eagle Mountain, he lives in Olympus Cove and will be reporting to us. Rob will help us develop a Community Wild Fire Protection Plan which could get us fire mitigation project funding for next year. Eric Holding, Brian Hiner and Capt. Brian Keith from Station 112 can do ½ hour home assessments. Refer to www.firewise.org. Jeff raised the issue of fire truck access on Crestwood and at the trailhead on Wasatch Dr. Rob will have the UFA Fire Code enforcement inspectors review and will discuss with UFA’s Brad Larson. UPD- Det. Paul Peterson reviewed the neighborhood crime statistics and highlighted the aggravated assault case on Zarahemla Dr. Paul will follow up on the 20 minute 911 response time and the concern that calling Millcreek Precinct directly may have a shorter response time. Paul mentioned that solicitors are required to have ID tags and that we should call the precinct to respond if a solicitor does not have a tag. DEQ- Michael Squire reported that the Millcreek Canyon transfer of property from the BSA to USFS was completed. Business: Bonneville Shoreline Trail Head on Crestwood Dr.- Several neighbors attended to discuss concerns about the trail alignment and parking and fire truck access on Crestwood Drive at the proposed BST trailhead. John Knoblock had discussed the concerns with the BST Commission and they agreed to remove Crestwood from the list of Trailheads (and they did that already). We agreed that the BST should continue to require dogs on leash to prevent wildlife disturbance and that the 3' wide trail should avoid open slopes visible from below. We discussed how the existing trails used by the neighborhood are on private land that could be closed and posted no trespassing at any time; the BST can secure permanent legal trail access. Also, we will ---PAGE BREAK--- recommend that when the trail is designed (in 5-10 years) that it go UPHILL from the end of the Pipeline Trail before descending to discourage downhill mountain bikes (so they will continue to go down Rattlesnake Trail). Jeff will write a letter to the BST Commission documenting our position on these items and John will help with wording about the alignment to discourage downhill mountain bikes. Community Cleanup Project- Kyle Taft reported that despite the rain Fortuna Park and seven yards were cleaned up. There are five more homes that did not get done and no work was done on Wasatch Blvd. Kyle will discuss plans with Guy Woodbury to determine if we should schedule an additional cleanup day in August or September. SLCo can provide dumpsters, vests, bags, etc. if we decide to do another cleanup day. Meeting Adjourned at 8:45 pm.
