Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvestrini and Holladay City Mayor Rob Dahle, as well as most of our residents, are alarmed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Offers of assistance from our residents to Ukranians have been frequent. In response, the two cities have partnered with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to provide residents an opportunity to support Ukranian refugees. ---PAGE BREAK--- Join us tomorrow, Saturday, March 26th, from noon to 2pm, at Holladay City Park, 4580 S 2300 E, for a community rally to support Ukrainians in crisis. Millcreek engages with the IRC often through our Promise Program to provide support for local refugee residents who need assistance and support. We have heard from the IRC that they are scaling up resources and mobilizing partners to assist Ukranian civilians who have been forced to flee their homes. The number of those in need grows each day. With the announcement by President Biden yesterday of plans to welcome 100,000 Ukrainian refugees and others fleeing Russian aggression to the US, the IRC is working to learn more details about these potential resettlement plans in order to assist. You can read the update from the White House HERE. In the meantime, visit rescue.org for more information and how to donate. ---PAGE BREAK--- Come to the rally tomorrow. Bring your picnic lunch, view art pieces from local Ukrainian artists, experience live music by Winterwood, and learn more about the IRC and how you can help. "The people of Ukraine need our support, and there are many people in Holladay and Millcreek that have a desire to lend a helping hand," stated Mayor Rob Dahle of Holladay. "Our hope is to bridge this gap by bringing the community together, providing a way for people to directly provide assistance, and sending a message of encouragement and love to the families that are ---PAGE BREAK--- facing unimaginable circumstances." Mayor Silvestrini added "We are grateful to have the International Rescue Committee join us at this event. We appreciate the valuable programs and aid they bring to our community and consider them to be a trusted partner to provide support directly to the Ukrainian people. It's important for us to pay it forward and be there for the people of Ukraine in their darkest hour of need." CITY COUNCIL REDISTRICTING MILLCREEK.
