REPORTS: Unified Police Department Report: Detective Ronnie Prescott reviewed the Case Report for February 2017. Number of cases and calls for the month were typical for the Mt. Olympus community. He said that the community has been very helpful in keeping the crime statistics low through vigilance and notification of suspicious situations. Unified Fire Authority: Capt. Ayers provided the statistics on the medical responses for station 112 for January 2017. He mentioned that numbers for the Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support cases were typical and comparable to other stations. With improving weather conditions, Capt. Ayers also cautioned the citizens to be mindful of children playing outside and also be careful near fast moving creeks and waterways fed by rapid snowmelt. There is a new contact person for CERT training. He is Taylor Samstrom. There will be an introductory meeting on March 14 at 7:30 PM at 3300 S fire station to discuss general principles of CERT. Business Millcreek Planning Commission: John Janson from the Millcreek City Planning Commission gave a brief presentation on the draft of Mixed Development (MD) zone ordinance. The Planning Commission will be reviewing this on March 15. The MD draft chapter 19.55 has a new format and is simplified to address categories of retail/commercial properties instead of a large number of individual cases. ---PAGE BREAK--- Traffic Calming and Speed Enforcement: There have been a significant number of complaints from the Mt. Olympus citizens about motorists exceeding posted speed limits on the neighborhood streets. A number of Mt. Olympus citizens attended the meeting and voiced their complaints about lack of enforcement of speed limits. Det. Prescott mentioned that UPD is aware of the problem and has issued speeding tickets to at least 6 residents from the area. David Baird agreed to post a warning to the community in the Next Door site about UPD presence in many of the areas to enforce speed limits. The Council also discussed possible traffic calming options such as speed bumps and lane narrowing stripes. Millcreek City Councilwoman Bev Uipi discussed SL County procedures for implementing these options and it would require petition from at least 10 affected citizens to initiate a review. Bev also mentioned that the new city budget priorities are still being worked on and made a commitment to work with UPD and the city council to identify short term options for traffic calming in the affected areas. David Baird requested community input on a list of “hot spots” for speeding violations and a short list was generated and subsequently forwarded to Det. Prescott 1. Jupiter Drive right next to Aurora Circle (the spot you targeted on Tuesday). 2. Jupiter Drive right in front of Oakridge elementary. 3. Brockbank Drive between East Oaks Circle and Arcata Drive. There's a long straight and downhill section that tends to get a massive amount of speeding in the morning between 8:10 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. going northbound, then again between 8:40 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. going southbound. A lot of these drivers are parents dropping off kids at Oakridge. 4. Oakview Drive, just east of Oakridge elementary. The police used to set up radar from the LDS Church parking lot getting people coming down Oakview before they approached the school. I don't know if you can legally sit in the Church lot or not, but it used to be a normal spot for radar but for some reason they don't do it anymore. 5. Oakview Drive, near the crosswalk in front of Churchill Jr. High. 6. Bernada Drive in the steep portions just east of Loren Von Drive. 7. Eastcliff Drive in the steep portions just east of Wasatch Blvd near Deercreek. Other: Millcreek City Councilwoman Cheri Jackson announced that the mar 21 meeting of MOCC will focus on neighborhood parking permits and restrictions associated with the Grandeur Peak trailhead. She encouraged the affected citizens to participate and voice their opinions. MOCC council member Richard Williamson was name the MOCC treasurer replacing Joan Haven. Thank you, Joan for your years of service as treasurer. Meeting Adjourned at 9:00 pm. Minutes recorded and submitted by Pasu Pasupathi
