MOUNT OLYMPUS COMMUNITY COUNCIL Churchill Jr. High School Library October 1, 2019 6:00 PM Pledge of Allegiance Council Members Present: North: Richard Williamson (minutes), Brian Jorgensen, Kate Johnson South: David Baird (Chair), Chuck Pruitt, John Knoblock, Kumar Shah, Ken Smith Excused: Joan Haven, Phong Nguyen MINUTES: The amended minutes of the last meeting held on September 3, 2019 were approved. Thank you, Kate Johnson. REPORTS: Unified Police Update – police report map was sent to MOCC members via email. Unified Fire Authority Update 1. Discussion about the recent hiring process with approximately 95 applicants 2. Active Shooter training 3. Station #112 red lights were on to bring awareness 4. Annual Pancake Breakfast at Station #106 on 3300 S. State Legislative Update (Jani Iwamoto) (Patrice Arent) – Excused. Update for MOCC will be deferred until next month Mayor’s Update – Excused. Update for MOCC will be deferred until next month BUSINESS: 1. David Baird recognized a previous Mt. Olympus resident, (_?_Shu Ping Wang? name?) for her lifetime achievements. ---PAGE BREAK--- 2. Rita Lund discussed the Capital Improvement Project requests for each of the Community Councils, with a suspense date by the December MOCC meeting, which is scheduled on December 3rd, 2019. More information will need to be finalized by that time. 3. Kate Johnson discussed a safety issue of certain drivers speeding on residential streets. She then showed some pictures of 3-D street paintings, looking like speed bumps, which other cities have tried to deter speeders. More information will be discussed. 4. Ken Smith discussed a safety issue of youth riding their skateboards down the middle of the road in the upper Mt. Olympus area. City officials recommended that residents contact the police dispatcher at [PHONE REDACTED] for reporting non-emergencies. 5. Rita encouraged Millcreek residents to keep leaves out of the storm drains and street gutters, especially during this fall season. The City has 30 boxes of the extra-large leaf bags available at City Hall for residents to use. 6. Rita discussed Community Council Year End budget requests will be due by mid-January. 7. Neff’s Creek Property Owner Information Update Plans (David Baird) a. Discussion about FEMA flood plain changes and debris basins which affect property owners in the Mt. Olympus cove b. David Baird requested to schedule a formal neighborhood meeting in the Churchill auditorium to inform more residents and parcel owners of the flood plain c. David Baird also recommended to draft a FAQ flyer for the 425 houses and parcels affected by the new flood plain designation d. Rita Lund stated that three letters have been sent from Millcreek with the information, and the City will continue to share the information as needed. e. Further discussion among MOCC and City Officials asked for clarification about whether the flood plain changes were initiated by the State or by FEMA, however, homeowners affected by these changes will need to understand the implications, especially when applying for future building permits through Millcreek Planning & Development.
