Books R Us Books R Us, the Senior Center book club, will meet on Thursday May 23 at 10:00 a.m. This month’s book, A Secret Gift by Ted Gup is an inspiring account of America at its worst and Americans at their best- woven from the stories of Depression era families who were helped by gifts from the author’s generous and secretive grandfather. Shortly before Christmas 1933 in Depression-scarred Canton, Ohio, a small newspaper ad offered $10, no strings attached, to 75 families in distress. Interested readers were asked to submit letters describing their hardships to a benefactor calling himself Mr. B. Virdot. The author’s grandfather Sam Stone was inspired to place this ad and assist his fellow Cantonians as they prepared for the cruelest Christmas most of them would ever witness. The story is a beautiful read and an inspiration to everyone. Join us to learn about this beautiful story. They think they are safe until one of them turns up dead. Paralyzed retired police inspector Hanne Wilhelmsen must act fast before the killer strikes again. Edgar Award Nominee. In June, the Mystery Book Club will read Cover of Snow, by Jenny Milchman. Milchman’s debut is a gripping tale of suspense. Waking up one wintry morning in her old farmhouse nestled in the Adirondack Mountains of New York, Nora Hamilton instantly knows that something is wrong. When her fog of sleep clears, she finds her world is suddenly, irretrievably shattered: Her husband, Brendan, has committed suicide. Unraveling her late husband’s final days, Nora searches for an explanation A heads-up: The Mystery Book Club will be reading Death Comes Pemberley, by P. D. James in July.
