Executive News Release Contact: April O’Brien, Deputy City Clerk Phone: (360) 363-8077 Email: [EMAIL REDACTED] March 12, 2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mayor seeks to fill vacancies on Library Board, Civil Service Commission MARYSVILLE – The City of Marysville is seeking individuals interested in serving on the Library Board of Trustees and Civil Service Commission. The seven-member Library Board of Trustees meets at 4 p.m. on the second Thursday of every other month starting in January in the Marysville Public Library, 6120 Grove St. The Marysville Library is a branch of the Sno-Isle Regional Library System. The Board adopts rules and regulations for its own guidance and for governance of the library as deemed necessary, accepts gifts of money or property for the library, and proposes leases or purchases related to library grounds and facilities, all subject to final approval of the City Council. The Civil Service Commission meets at Marysville City Hall at 9:30 a.m. on the third Wednesday of every month and presides over a civil service system for police officers to provide for promotion on the basis of merit; to give officers tenure; and to investigate whether removals, suspensions, demotions and discharges were made in good faith and for cause. The Commission adopts civil service rules and regulations that meet civil service system objectives. Nominees must be U.S. citizens, registered voters in Snohomish County, and if applying for the Civil Service Commission, a Marysville resident for at least three years prior to appointment. Nominees must reside within Marysville School District area boundaries or city limits. To apply, please submit a brief letter of interest, resume or both in care of Deputy City Clerk April O’ Brien at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98270. If applying for the Civil Service Commission post, the letter should also include the applicant’s political affiliation; City and state law require that at the time of appointment no more than two commissioners shall belong to the same party.
