City Scene November 2017 Say no to panhandlers, support local programs instead Because panhandling is a community-wide problem that adversely impacts our cities, neighborhoods and businesses, the cities of Marysville and Arlington are asking residents and visitors to keep their wallets closed to panhandlers. “If you want to donate, please consider giving to a local charity instead,” Mayor Jon Nehring said. A new community resource flier provides information for people who want to help and a list and map of free resources for hot meals, groceries and/or clothing for those in need. The resource handout is available at City Hall, 1049 State Ave., or online at Waterfront trail gets a new entrance From this serene view, would you guess there’s a busy state highway overhead? The highly anticipated connection between Ebey Water- front Park and Trail opened in October. It was part of the original plan but delayed when permits required from other agencies took longer to acquire than anticipated. From the trail you can get an up-close view of the slough and estuary. The city’s long-term vision is to redevelop the formerly industrial waterfront into a recreational and cultural destination. The next step, planning and permitting, is just getting underway. Talks continue on Regional Fire Authority Since late last year the cities of Marysville and Arlington and Fire District #12 have been exploring the formation of a Regional Fire Authority. The RFA Planning Committee, made up of representatives from all three entities, meets Any recommendation to change how fire and EMS services are delivered is subject to a future public vote.
