The contest is open to all youth and adults in the Marysville and Tulalip areas starting March 27. One entry is allotted per person and is restricted to traditional two-dimensional artwork. The contest is divided into the following divisions: Division I: Pre-school-2nd grade Division II: 3rd -5th grade Division III: 6th -8th grade Division IV: 9th -12th grades Division V: Adults (18 and older) All artwork submitted must fit the theme “Diversity Works: Sharing Similarities, Celebrating Differences.” Entries need to include the entrant’s name, mailing address, home phone, email address, and additionally for youth, age, grade, parent’s name and school name. Entry deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2. Contest prizes include a $25 gift card and ribbon for each division winner and a Grand Prize worth up to $300 selected from among the division winners, and announced at a multicultural fair in the works, replete with art, music, dance and food, scheduled in September in Comeford Park, where all the artwork will be displayed. The contest is aimed at helping spread diversity in the community through art. The Diversity Committee, who developed the contest with support from the Arts Coalition, was established in November 2010 by Mayor Jon Nehring to help identify issues and prioritize support for the community concerning diversity and inclusion. Media: Any two-dimensional media (marker, pencil, cut and paste, paint, etc.) No glitter, three- dimensional items, photography or computer-generated drawings can be used. Color: Color, or black and white. Theme: Diversity Works! Sharing Similarities, Celebrating Differences; optional to include the theme wording in the artwork as a way to illustrate what diversity means to you. All Entries: All artwork must be original in subject matter and fit the theme “Diversity Works: Sharing Similarities, Celebrating Differences.” Optionally, you may include the theme wording in the artwork as a way to illustrate what diversity means to you. Copies of other artists’ work or copyrighted materials not allowed. Entries must include information on a piece of paper taped to the back of the artwork with entrant’s name, mailing address, home phone, email address, and additionally for youth, age, grade, parent’s name and school name. Artwork without this information will not be considered. Contest Permissions Submitting an entry constitutes the entrants’ consent to the use of their artwork, subject to adaptation and without compensation, by the City of Marysville Diversity Advisory Committee and Marysville Arts Coalition if the entrant becomes one of the contest winners. All posters/artwork submitted for the City of Marysville Multicultural Festival on Saturday, Sept. 28 become the property of the City of Marysville, which shall have all rights for reproduction in all media not to exclude any print, film, video or electronically-transmitted medium as organizers deem appropriate to further goals of the contest. Artwork will not be returned but the artist will be credited on every use. Submission constitutes entrants’ consent to allow the use of their name and/or likeness, without compensation, for publicity related to this contest. Contest Deadlines: Entries must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2 by mail or hand delivery. Entries will be accepted at Marysville City Hall, 1049 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98270. The City of Marysville is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, incomplete, altered, stolen or undelivered entries. Contest Selection Process, Recognitions and Prizes: Qualified entries will be evaluated based on creativity, originality, power in conveying the theme and appropriateness as a program cover for the Multicultural Festival. All division winners will receive a gift card and ribbon, and will be recognized on stage at the Multicultural Festival. All entries will be displayed at the Festival and in other potential display venues. The selection process will conclude by Friday, Aug. 16, with notification of winners by email and/or phone. One division winner will be named Grand Prize Winner. The Grand Prize Winner will be announced on stage at the Multicultural Festival, with a Grand Prize ($300 value) to be announced later.
