Maloney, Division Chief / Fire Marshal Office: (360) 363-8506 Email: [EMAIL REDACTED] MARYSVILLE FIRE DISTRICT SEPTEMBER 11TH EVENTS MARYSVILLE, Washington (September 2, 2011) – Marysville Firefighters and Police Officers will be honoring the 10 year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center that took the lives of thousands of people, including 343 New York Firefighters and 72 Law Enforcement Officers. In addition, the Marysville Fire District lost Lieutenant Jeff Thornton, who passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on September 11, 2001. Members of the Marysville Fire District‘s Honor Guard will be holding a ceremony at the Police and Firefighters Memorial, located at the Marysville Public Library, 6120 Grove Street beginning at 08:30am. This event has taken place every year since 2001. This year’s program will build on past ceremonies. Activities will include, an invocation, an address from Mayor Jon Nehring, the ringing of the bell, in honor of those lost, as well as music and dove release. “This annual ceremony helps us all remember and pay tribute to those who died, as we also remember the loss of one of our own on that very same day,” said Marysville Fire Chief, Greg Corn. “As we look back on the events that took place ten years ago, we have a responsibility to those who gave their lives and to those who continue to fight and sacrifice for our freedom and security. Marysville is a community that will never forget,” said Chief Corn. Additional Activities on September 11, 2011  Marysville Fire District Captain Keith Taylor will be singing the National Anthem at SAFECO Field for the Mariners game.  A special tribute to Lieutenant Jeff Thornton will take place at Husky Ball Park at 3pm. The facility is on Montlake Blvd, just north of Hec Ed Pavilion & Intramural Center.  A Patriot Ride will take place through Snohomish County (Marysville, Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Clearview, and Everett) beginning at Sound Harley (16212 Smokey Point Blvd) at 9am.
