Parks & Recreation Department News Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Jim Ballew, Parks and Recreation Director Phone: (360) 363-8400 Email: [EMAIL REDACTED] June 16, 2014 Join Marysville Spray Park opening celebration June 26 in Comeford Park Bring lawn chairs, sun screen and towels for a day at the ‘beach’ MARYSVILLE – Splash-happy kids and families are invited to come celebrate the grand opening of Marysville’s new Spray Park on Thursday, June 26 in downtown Comeford Park, 514 Delta Ave. The celebration runs from 12:30-3:30 p.m. featuring free refreshments, music, souvenir beach balls while supplies last, and plenty of time to get soaked by the spray park’s many surprises. The spray park is furnished with water jets and dueling spray cannons; rotating sprinklers, arches and various ground spray fixtures to simulate jumping fish; bollards and raised curbing; blue solar lights embedded in a winding stream feature for night lighting effects; seating, lighting, landscaping and restroom renovations for swimwear changes. “The spray park will add a free and refreshing new way for families to enjoy fun in the water on hot summer days, and it offers a great new attraction for helping create a sense of community in our downtown,” Mayor Jon Nehring says. Comeford Park has long had a special connection with water, evidenced by the water tower that overlooks the park, and a community wading pool that was once the main family attraction some 40 years ago, says Jim Ballew, Parks and Recreation Director. “The new spray park keeps that tradition going.” Spray park hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. daily through Labor Day weekend. The spray park was designed by Mount Vernon-based Eccos Design, LLC of Mount Vernon. Construction on the two-month project was performed by Kelaye Concrete, LLC out of Clackamas, Ore. Project Manager Jeff Laycock managed the project for the City. While the park is able to open, the Marysville Community Parks Foundation is currently running a campaign to raise remaining funds for the $325,000 project. Two-thirds of the funding is in place, but the balance is being sought through local support from individual, group and service club donors. For more information about donating, please contact Parks Director Jim Ballew at (360) 363-8400 or email [EMAIL REDACTED].
